Sequin or sequence?

Aimee, on June 8, 2017 at 11:49 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 16

Every time I describe the decor I plan on using for my ceremony and I mention that I would like to use a "sequin" aisle runner, people get confused or try to correct me with "sequence". Am I saying it wrong or are they? My officiate, decorater, and coworker has all pronounced it "sequence". Has anyone ever used a sequin aisle runner or thinking about using one?

Sequin, you are right. Pleural would be sequins.

Maybe they're talking about the plural of sequin, "sequins"? I'm pretty sure you're correct with sequin.

Ok. I thought the same thing but they're saying it exactly like "sequence" instead of "sequins" but maybe you're right.

You are absolutely using the correct word. Reminds me of something from RuPauls Drag Race wear one of the ladies used the word sequence to describe a sequin gown and everyone made fun of her. Ha.

1 sequin: 2 sequins. Sequined would be the adjective; such as a sequined gown. Sequence is the order of events.

It makes my brain curdle when I see that, or hear someone say it out loud. "It is SEQUINS!! AAAHHH!!!" *LOL*

This just makes me think of an Eddie Izard sketch about how to conjugate hang glide. "I hang glide, you hang glide, we hang glid, they hang glideded."

    While we're at it:

    "officiant" not "officiate"

    "decorator" not "decorater"

    "plural" not "pleural"

Most importantly, aisle runners and heels equal America's Funniest Videos. Please don't go through all the effort for a tripping hazard that is just going to end up in the trash anyhow. Decorating the sides of the aisle is a much safer option. Best wishes!

    @MV don't forget

    "aisle" not "isle"

    "bearer" not "bear"

    "proposed" not "purposed"

Agreed, Mrs. E. I'm referring to my fellow grammar police in this very thread.

Others have parsed your grammar question, but I just wanted to throw out there that sequins can be kind of "grabby" on other fabrics. I was at a wedding this past weekend where the floor of the church was kind of pebbly, and the bride's lace train kept getting caught as she walked down the aisle. If you go with a sequined (adjective!) runner, make sure that nothing you have trailing behind you is going to get caught up in it!

You're right with sequin. They say "sequence" but they should be saying "sequins" which is the plural form Smiley smile
