Set Up Time

Elle, on October 3, 2019 at 10:05 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

Hi!

Our venue says we can be in at 7am to set up (we're doing our own floristry the day before, so they just need to be carried in and put on tables). We only have 5 tables (approx 35 people) and have asked the venue to have the tables set up in the right place with linens and place settings done. We're simply having table runners with centre pieces and candles on the tables, along with name cards, and then a backdrop to be hung behind our sweetheart table (also table runner, simple flowers pre-done and candles). For other decor, we will have a guestbook table with some photo frames on it (also easy to set up) and two vases, and one easel with the seating chart and one with the welcome sign.

Is 2 hours long enough to set up? I am trying to see if I can start at 6am... I have 6 bridesmaids too who are all keen to help and my fiance is setting up the Church flowers.

My other question is candles - we have fake ones that need switching on... who should we get to do this and when? Anyone else had this issue?

Thanks so much! All other answers I've found on this are for much bigger weddings, but seeing as most of our stuff simply needs placing down, I feel it should be straightforward but would love to hear from you!

1-2 hours should be fine if you are having help! I'd make sure your bridesmaids are willing to wake up that early, though! That will be such a long day!

We set up in about 3 hours and that was a wedding for 160 people, setting all of the tables and the florals. It wasn't bad and I had a little help. We had 17 tables total.

As far as the candles, usually a DOC does this, see if one of your bridesmaids can do it before the recepton starts during cocktail hour while you are taking family photos?

Two hours should be plenty esp since you've a smaller wedding. For the candles you should see how long they last in terms of hours because if it's more convenient already have them on.

I agree you're probably fine on the timing. The only thing I'd add is to see if you can give your runners to the venue so they can place them before they add the place settings. If not, you'll likely have to move place settings to put the runners down and that's just more work for everyone.

    Great idea, thank you!

And yes, my bridesmaids are all for the idea of getting up early - though I did say if I am allowed to come down at 6am I'll do an hour solo as I'm staying onsite (they're a 10 min walk away) and I'll be awake early anyway Smiley smile

With help anything is possible. We don't get our venue till noon for our 4pm wedding and we have to set up EVERYTHING! We will make it work. If you would feel more comfortable I would at least reach out to your venue because you never know they may be fine with that but I think timing wise and with the proper group helping you should be fine!
