severe allergies....what are you doing in place of flowers?

patty, on October 30, 2012 at 2:02 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 19

I'm looking for ideas/suggestions for scent free ideas for bouquets, center pieces (thinking floating candles that are scent free)

and is it rude to indicate on the invitation we are having a scent free wedding....and how would you word it politely?

As far as flowers, you can to silk or Real Touch flower bouquets, origami flowers, brooch bouquets, feather bouquets -- I'm doing Christmas ornament bouquets, not for allergies but just because I'm not a big flower fan.

Not sure about how to word the scent free wedding part, though.

I dont think it's rude to request a scent free wedding as most of your guests should know (hopefully) that you have severe allergies. I am using silk flowers. No scent, and you can still use flowers. I'm using them for every single flower that will be at my wedding, and silk is a lot cheaper although my aunt is doing my WP for free

We have the same problem, real touch flowers and unscented candles.

I used real touch roses and unscented candle/no flowers in my centerpieces (got married at an aquarium) because my son and I both have very bad allergies.

You can request that guests refrain from using perfume and cologne and put in in the information insert in your invites.

I'm doing the real touch flowers because I don't have it in my budget for a florist. Are you doing a wedding website? I would post it there. Depending on the size of your guest list, you could also ask family, bridal party to spread the word. Both avenues should cover the bases.

Gee O. Where did your BM get those dresses? It's exactly what I'm looking for. I was doing the clutches as well, but was going to attach flowers to them.

I would put on the STD if your sending them and on a business card in the invite.

Please due to severe allergies we ask that you come au natural and leave your perfume and smelly stuff at home.

We have horrible allergies and hate to drug to go to church, we notice early mass on sunday people are less done up or sat night. But late sunday everyone has their smells on and one woman even sprays hers during church. YACK!

Can you take meds before without being a zombie.

Maybe add a card AND a section on the web site AND have all your nearest tell everyone about your scent-free wedding. Something like, "Because the bride is severely allergic to scents, we respectfully request that you refrain from wearing perfume, scented body spray, and other scented products to the wedding. Thank you so much for your cooperation!" I would pop an Allegra the night before anyway and if you have a REALLY severe allergy, you probably know to keep your Epi-Pen close at hand, and to not get too close to anyone you know might be wearing scent.

I love the BMs carrying clutches and tons and tons of candles for the reception. Instead of a bridal bouquet, maybe you can carry a religious book or a beautiful purse?

My mother and I have been making felt flowers with buttons in the center, and pinning them to a styrofoam ball to make pomanders. And as for centerpieces we have led tea lights in glass jars with lace on them.
