Shabby chic or vintage theme without burlap?

Brandieb123, on April 20, 2016 at 8:33 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 50

Does this exist? Am I the only person who has ever tried it?

I am doing most everything myself because everything tells me in order to pull this off I need to use burlap.

I am from the south. I have seen enough burlap to last me the rest of my life. Not to mention that burlap usually means country or barn here. I am not hating on country. I was raised that way and I pretty much stick to my roots. However I want something a little more vintage than country.

I think burlap is way overdone lately.

Does anyone have any suggestions for vintage type decor that I havent thought of?

I am making fabric flowers because I like the look. It looks vintagy (?) to me. There will be lace. I just dont want it to look like I puked lace all over my venue and called it a day lol

You absolutely can! That's the direction im heading in. An idea I had was to buy/collect old milk bottles or other vintage glass bottles with tea lights around them and flowers in the glasses as your centerpieces. A huge hit right now is lanterns which can look vintagey. Type into Pinterest vintage wedding decor and there are tons of options WITHOUT burlap. Happy planning!

I'm in the south too! No burlap for us either, we are doing a more classic/vintage/elegant wedding.

Lace, vintage candle holders, classic books (a newer idea I've recently liked a lot) are just a few things we might use but honestly I'm not all the way to that point yet. :-)

I was going to use burlap too until I saw everyone doing it! I switched to almost all lace... But it still seems subtle to me.

My centerpieces are old hobnail jars with flowers. (Afloral.com has them in lots of colors too!) My table runners are lace. And I've been scouring thrift stores for vintage looking stuff for extra decor.

Our theme is "vintage rustic". We have a little bit of burlap in our decor but I didn't want to go overboard. We got a ton of our decorations from hobby lobby! Our store had a whole section of lace items. We got a lot of lace table runners and we got mason jars with little lights on the inside so it looks like fireflies and those have a lace bow around them. We will use those as part of our centerpeices. Very cute. My FH got a few white birdcages to hang from trees and I'm not sure how I feel about those but he says they look vintage? ¯\_(?)_/¯

We are also using a lot of lanterns in our decor

You definitely don't need burlap. Lace, pearls, the right colors, vintage photo frames and candle holders. I think there are a million ways to do it without burlap Smiley smile

I am making table runners from a really nice cotton gauze from fabric.com, it's not too expensive and i think a fresh take on the overdone burlap Smiley smile Comes in all sorts of colors!

We are doing lots of lace. We don't like burlap either and it was so hard to find lace without burlap. We are doing mason jars with vintage china

No burlap at our barn wedding! It is possible but strangely hard.

I'm with JoRocka...burlap isn't vintage. It is rough and scratchy, but not vintage. It's quite possible to avoid it, just like I, and apparently lots of others, have.

My cranky opinion aside. I did a lot of research on industrial stuff and holy hell there is a lot of over lap with barns and burlap and tea lights. It's really odd. And infuriating.

I'm with you with the burlap it's so overrated. We are trying to pull off country mountain romance. I been looking into having some antlers in the decor.
