Shabby chic or vintage theme without burlap?

Does this exist? Am I the only person who has ever tried it? I am doing most everything myself because everything tells me in order to pull this off I need to use burlap. I am from the south. I am doing most everything myself because everything tells me in order to pull this off I need to use burlap.

I am from the south. I have seen enough burlap to last me the rest of my life. Not to mention that burlap usually means country or barn here. I am not hating on country. I was raised that way and I pretty much stick to my roots. However I want something a little more vintage than country.

I think burlap is way overdone lately.

Does anyone have any suggestions for vintage type decor that I havent thought of?

I am making fabric flowers because I like the look. It looks vintagy (?) to me. There will be lace. I just dont want it to look like I puked lace all over my venue and called it a day lol

Shabby chic decor has been around for as long as I have been decorating my surroundings (I'm 32 and my childhood bedroom was shabby chic). It has nothing to do with burlap.

Lol I know burlap isnt vintage. The problem is that lace is vintage. What goes with burlap when they do it? Lace.

I have been trying to find a roll of flat lace. I keep coming across burlap on a roll. Burlap and lace on a roll. No just flat lace on a roll.

I know I need to venture out to more stores. So far I have only been to hobby lobby and walmart. If anyone needs burlap they have a ton. Please buy it all so they can get something else

This was said, but burlap is not really vintage. A lot of things I've seen on Pinterest and wedding sites equate burlap to vintage, but really burlap is rustic. Some ideas for how to pull vintage into your theme is to use muted colors, pearls, antique silver (look up Mercury glass), and you can draw other details by pulling a specific era. That might help in searches for inspiration to so that you are saying for example "1950s" as opposed to "vintage."

Michaels... Joanns Fabrics... Pacific Fabrics.... these places will have lace on a roll.. not to mention: I Googled "lace on a roll" and came up with hundreds of hits on the interwebs.

You can keep it vintage and classy! Some things I've really loved:

Old painted china/tea sets and greenery in centerpieces

    Old books

Faux pearl strings, crystal drops, chandeliers, candelabras

Vintage/glam furniture (you can rent this from various places. Makes great staging for photos!)

If you need fabric for draping or tables, tobacco cloth is a great cheap alternative to burlap or tulle.

We aren't using burlap at all in our vintage mountain wedding. Some things we are using:

-1930s masons- the pretty green ones

    -old Biltmore milk bottles

    -wood slabs aka tree cookies

    -lace

    -mismatched blush toned china

    -crochet doilies

    -crochet table overlays

I'm going with that theme as well, sans burlap. You can pretty much just take out the burlap from anything you see, or substitute it with something else like lace or chiffon (or lace over chiffon) or tulle. Use lots of greens and vintage aspects (either real antiques or distressed pieces that look vintage) and keep the color palette simple, neutral, and clean. Candles, mirrors, chalkboards, and string lights can also portray a vintage/rustic feel without using burlap at all.

Burlap is rustic, not vintage. Lace is vintage. I would also google vintage vases, the silver with the aged look is nice, and antique filigree frames.

Mine is going to be vintage with maybe a little rustic- no burlap. Lace, pearls, old books, milk glass, & old China (tea pots & cups as decor & renting old mismatched China for salad, dinner, & cake plates)

If you're still set on lace I found an ikea hack. 12.99 for a set. I don't know if that's out of your budget

I'm buying alot of lace and mostly everything from yardsale so it is miss matchy. I am doing all DIY stuff too. Look up vintage wedding decor on Pinterest . Ull find alot u can do! So excited I'm not the only one who wants a vintage wedding lol! Colors I'm going with are burgundy, mauve, cream, and gold accents.

If you want some slightly different ideas, look up "French country wedding" on Pinterest. It's still very shabby chic but a little more upscale and less "done" in the US.

Ok I know you are all hating on the overrated overdone burlap. My wedding decor includes burlap & lace as I am doing a *RUSTIC* Vintage theme. Now if it were just a vintage theme I would not include the burlap because burlap is rustic not vintage as it has been stated many times. Not trying to correct you OP just chiming in on the conversation. I think it's okay though because I am in no way "country." I live in Vancouver, B.C there is nothing country about highrises and hipsters.

I've found that my theme is kind of vintage-y without being country. My theme is English garden Smiley smile

I'm trying for kind of a woodsy vintage theme; lots of moss and plants, vintage glass, and some vaguely art deco touches. I am using kraft paper on my favors, but that's about as far toward "rustic" as I'm going. Zero burlap.

I do have burlap ribbon and flowers on my wreath on my front door. But I can change that whenever and it won't be in pictures of a life changing event forever and ever. I feel like that's the way to participate in trends--cautiously and ephemerally.
