Shabby chic or vintage theme without burlap?

Does this exist? Am I the only person who has ever tried it? I am doing most everything myself because everything tells me in order to pull this off I need to use burlap. I am from the south. I am doing most everything myself because everything tells me in order to pull this off I need to use burlap.

I am from the south. I have seen enough burlap to last me the rest of my life. Not to mention that burlap usually means country or barn here. I am not hating on country. I was raised that way and I pretty much stick to my roots. However I want something a little more vintage than country.

I think burlap is way overdone lately.

Does anyone have any suggestions for vintage type decor that I havent thought of?

I am making fabric flowers because I like the look. It looks vintagy (?) to me. There will be lace. I just dont want it to look like I puked lace all over my venue and called it a day lol

This is what I'm doing. Burlap is country, but not shabby chic or vintage. My centerpieces are antique blue mason jars (not the new fake blue ones), we'll have some of my mothers antique wooden boxes around and possibly her oil lamps (I want to use them but she's afraid to). Other elements like my venue (which is a historic mill) and the look of my dress has a vintage feel to it. Lots of people use vintage plates, milk glass etc. and I am doing a fair amount of lace

I HATE BURLAP!!! haha I've gotten some unique ideas searching "industrial". It may be different from what you're looking for, but my venue is "the bottle factory". I told everyone I didn't want a farm, barn, burlap or boots haha. So hard to get ideas that doesn't involve those four things, since that's the southern thing these days

Think vintage runners and tablecloths. Lace, linen with cutwork, crocheted runners and doilies and tablecloths.

We are doing a vintage inspired decor. If you are having trouble getting your point across try saying "timeless romatic" and then throw in vintage. People (and search engines) tend to get a better picture of you vibe that way

I so agree with you! Burlap is way overdone. I walk through the wedding aisles at the craft stores and everything is burlap. We are having a "country" wedding with lots of sunflowers and handmade wood decor and some lace. I think the only burlap is some ribbon I bought on clearance and it's navy blue and you probably wouldn't recognize it as burlap unless you looked really closely. I'm using it around the tops of the centerpiece vases since it's so wide, then covering it with lace and a mini sunflower in the front.

I am not sure if anyone recommended this - but we had a bride last June who voiced the same concerns (she had also seen too much burlap, felt it was overdone, etc)

As far as flowers went, we went with wooden containers on the flowers, soft colors and a minimal amount of twine twisted around the base. The higher amount of greenery seemed to really give the feel she was looking for - which was a rustic/vintage blend as she put it.

And the cake.... because I love simple cakes once we decorate them. Smiley smile

Her cake topper was left at home so this was all anyone could get their hands on last minute! I think it is the ONLY burlap type of fabric at the wedding Smiley smile

These are my colors. I will have some gold in there too. Not a whole lot but the things that must have the metal attached will be gold. I am using milk glass, lace and pearls. Thats about as far as I have gotten at this point.

I like the wood look but does that make it rustic? My dad offered to make me a cupcake/cake stand out of wood. Like the ones that look like trees. He wont do a hack job lol. He is experienced in wood work. I was thinking it may look a little less rustic varnished instead of bark on

I am so with you on the burlap. I also feel this way about mason jars. I guess that's what happens when you spend your 2 year engagement looking at pinterest....lol

@Stephanie we're looking into doing the same with our table runner. damn. I thought we were being original. hehe.

we've started collecting vintage bottles and mercury glass for the long dinner table (we're doing 10 rectangular tables in one long row). you can get a really beautiful vintage look with different heights and sizes of glass. you can also find beautiful brass candelabras on the cheap at flea markets and garage sales.

gilded vintage mirrors make beautiful signs. I love the look when used with a gold marker. you can do the same with old windows.

I'm doing a vintage theme and I am not having any burlap or mason jars. I'm having teapots and ornate glass as centerpieces. It might depend on your wedding colors and your style on what you would like to incorporate
