Shake your booty while dress shopping

Michelle, on May 3, 2021 at 1:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

My little sister is getting married a few months before us and she was FaceTiming her dress shopping across the country. The sales person at one shop made an interesting comment that I haven’t seen or read listed anywhere: MOVE AROUND in each dress you try on. Make sure that you can walk, sit, dance, lift your arms and that the material is not too heavy/bulky to restrict movement. She mentioned that so many brides who buy dresses try to return them because the fabric is too heavy, the cut is too tight, etc and they don’t practice moving in them while trying on.

This is such good advice. If i had tried to sit and walk further than ~10ft while trying on my dress I 100% would have ended up with a different one, lol. It was beautiful and love the pictures, but was not at all comfortable for anything other than standing still Smiley smile

I thought this was pretty common advice. When I went dress shopping with a friend of mine for her dress several years ago, the sales person suggested that. And then, I went to 2 separate stores and both consultants told me the same thing. I think it's definitely important to test out of the maneuverability of the dress before purchasing. I walked around, sat down, bent over as if picking something up, etc. to make sure I could still move like a person lol.

I didn’t know this wasn’t common advice! So interesting to hear people forget that they have to be able to move/sit/dance in their wedding dresses

Thank you so much for this! It may seem like common sense but you can get so caught up in how beautiful a dress is that you forget to make sure it’s comfortable and functional. This is definitely going to help me when I have my first appointment in June!

Definitely good advice. I heavily considered comfort when choosing my dress. I wish I could have moved around more when I tried mine on in the store but I was able to do so when I tried it on at home later. I am very short and the bottom needs almost 6 inches trimmed off so I was worried about tripping and ripping it before I had even bought it 😅

I agree but that only really works if the sample you're trying is in your size or close to it. For example, I'm a street size 16/18 and all the samples are 8/10 so naturally, I can't move very well lol because they're so much smaller. So I agree cuz I can tell the weight of the dress etc. but it's hard to figure out arm movement when the dress is so much smaller than my normal size.
