Shipping Bridesmaid Proposal?

J, on January 17, 2019 at 4:17 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 15
I wanted to do a spa box with lotion, soap, and some champagne to ask my bridesmaids - but I will have to ship the boxes to most girls because they are not local and I don’t want to do anything liquid or that has a risk of exploding or breaking in transit. Any ideas what to send and advice for how to keep it all safe?

Some states do not allow alcohol to be shipped into them so I would not do this.

I recommend asking them first and then if they say yes you could send them a little gift. The lotion and soap is enough. You could include a nice handwritten card too. Sending them a gift without asking them first could put undue pressure on them to say yes when in reality they need time to consider the financial and time commitments.

Keep in mind that the proposal/thank you gift is not in place of the actual "thank you" gift that you give them either at the rehearsal dinner or the day of your wedding. So, if you're on a limited budget, keep this in mind.

    ETA: clarification

Yah it’s not legal where I live. I had originally wanted to do that but when i was like “oh yah I have to ship them” and then realized I have to choose something else. I also wanted to do lotion but I’m not going to because i feel like it’s too risky for the mail.

Haha. I wrote a cute little limerick for all of them! I’m super excited about the cards! They’re all very personal about our individual relationships. I love writing my little poems. Haha.

All but 1 of my bridesmaids have already been “unofficially” asked. So they all already know and that’s not an issue. It’s more just a formality and something fun & nice that I wanna do at this point.

Lol. Yes. I know. Haha. I would never get them something now and not something then. I am on a budget but I’ve made room in it for their “proposal” gift. My mom raised me as a huge gift giver and taught my sis & I how to be so good and honestly way too “extra” at it so it’s more for my own fun than anything and I know they’ll appreciate it.

I sent plastic liquor shooters in my bridesmaids proposals. The UPS girl just asked me "are you SURE there is alcohol in the box?" and I got the hint that I wasn't supposed to say that haha! My groom sent glass coke bottles (personalized) in his and i just placed them in crinkle paper in a box, and the box was surrounding my packing peanuts and bubble wrap. None of them broke but it took forever packing them all!

Same girl! I was so excited to send proposal boxes. I sent them 14 months prior to our wedding so it didn't affect me financially at all and I didn't take it out of the wedding budget. However, if I was a bridesmaid and got a proposal gift & day of gift, I'd be super thankful! The two weddings I've been in I've only gotten day of gifts and they were really small so I'm trying to get my BMs as much as possible.

What you could do is send them the card separately and then order something online to be delivered to them directly so you don't have to worry about packaging and shipping it. I recommend the store L'Occitane. They have luxurious lotions and creams, skin care products, etc and they have beautiful gift boxes that I actually use as storage containers for my bathroom.

Hahahahaha I’m cracking up at your other comment. “Are you SURE” hahaha. But yeah the crinkle paper is a great idea! If I decide to do liquid I’ll do that. I’m actually considering those Starbucks coffee drinks instead of alcohol because 2 of my bridesmaids don’t drink at all and all of my bridesmaids love coffee lol. But yeah my wedding is April 25 2020 and I’m about to buy stuff for the boxes in the next couple weeks (I probably won’t send them right away but I’m so excited to make them) so yeah it won’t impact my budget at all. And I’ll get them something more significant (aka - expensive) the day of.

Cute! Both would be adorable. I just didn't include liquor shooters in the 1 that doesn't drink and the 1 that was pregnant. But mine had nail polish & hair ties anyway so there was still stuff in it! I asked my girls right away, I texted them all 19 months ahead of time. I wanted them to make sure it was something they could financially commit to since they all had to fly to Colorado other than 1. I sent the boxes 14 months out with the dress & location information!

Gosh I’m in like the same situation as you! Haha. Yeah most of my bridesmaids are people I’ve been having the “you’ll be my future bridesmaid one day” talk with for like 10 years. Haha. So I didn’t even officially say “will you be my bridesmaid” it was more just an understanding on both sides and then talking details. Except my cousin. I still need to ask her. Idk if she’s expecting to be asked or not though. But Hahahah yeah I already have dresses picked out too!

Yeah I’m really nervous about it. I hate even packing liquid stuff when I’m traveling. I might do just a super super basic little thing - like what you got at a girl’s birthday party in the goodie bag when you were little. Haha.

Yeah I’m so looking forward to the call! I’m asking my best friend to be a bridesmaid and her daughter to be my flower girl (she already knows though so there’s no real surprise moment) but I’m hoping she’ll FaceTime me with her daughter there too!

That would be very sweet! Maybe you can write something on the outside of the box to ask them to face time you before they open it.
