"Shoe game"

Jurnee, on November 21, 2017 at 10:51 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 34

Has anyone played the shoe game at their wedding or are you planning to? If so when did you play it or when do you think a good time slot would be? Just debating it right now after seeing the viral video.

I went to a wedding where the played this. I don't remember exactly when it was done but it was definitely after dinner.

A lot of people are of the opinion that this is a game better suited for a couples shower - as playing it at the reception interrupts the flow of the party and stops the dancing.

At weddings, people want to eat, dance and drink not be forced to participate in awkward games.

When I've seen it done, it was towards the end of dinner but before the dancing really got going, so there was no interruption.

I find them entertaining. Others have different opinions.

Don't do it. It always kills the vibe. Do it at your shower

We played the shoe game at our wedding. It was after our cake cutting since everyone was already looking at us. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed the game. We did this in lieu of a bouquet toss and/or garter toss. Our guests found it entertaining as they got to know us (for those who didn't know about our dynamic) and it was rather comical. From our video of our shoe game, I didn't see a guest who wasn't entertained by it. It also served as a good opener for the dancing, which occurred afterwards.

FH's best friend and his wife did this at their wedding. They didn't explain what was going on but once we figured it out it was kinda funny/cute. It was after dinner and dancing had been going on for a while. People were starting to bust moves on the dance floor when the DJ cut off and told everyone to get off so they could do it and it lasted for about 20 mins. There were less people on the dance floor after that.

I agree with PP's that it's more of a shower game.

I understand. I've been at a wedding where the shoe game was played but it involved the guests filling out a sheet at their seats while the game was played. I didn't particularly enjoy it.

For our wedding it was a relatively short game and more of a show rather than one that required participation. The majority of our guests were recording the game. We did get feedback from guests that they enjoyed it and they shared their videos of the game with us. They did have drinks at this point and the game was near the bar allowing guests that wanted to grab drinks to do so both during the cake cutting and the shoe game.

We did a version at my bridal shower where FH filled out his answers and sealed them in an envelope the day before. MOH asked me the questions and I answered out loud, she read his, and everyone had a great time. We had a prize for whoever got the most right. Smiley smile

The DJ suggested it for the reception. I said no because we already did something similar at the shower and because we're already doing a garter and bouquet toss. Also because I might be in Vans/Converse and those are a butt to take off and put back on in a ballgown!

I don't like games at a wedding. I would skip this.

I think it's so cute! I am hoping i can tell FH's family we are doing this instead of the dollar dance (I don't want to, Ive already said no but they are saying i HAVE to. Not happy about it) so I'm suggesting this instead and we would do it after dinner, before the dancing. Anything to get out of the dollar dance lol

I like them. If you want to do one, its your wedding..do it..

I don't see how this stops guest from drinking. : /

People seem to still manage to drink during...1st dance, cake cutting, garter toss..etc

I don't see how this is any different.

My friend had FH and I play at my surprise engagement party, it was fun! I don't think we will be doing anything like that at the wedding though.

I've seen it done at two weddings, as a guest I think it's annoying, I don't really want to stand around and see which one of you made the first move, or who is most likely to pass out after the wedding. Both times it was done after dinner, but before cake was served so it quickly changed the pace of the reception and a lot of people left the dance floor. (Definitely didn't stop people from drinking though)

But you do you. If you enjoy games, play games!

No one wants to do this. Let them drink dance and talk. And if you don't want to do a dollar dance, don't do it.

A game would make me drink more....just sayin'

I'm not a fan of reception games. I'm actually not even a fan of shower games. My personal opinion is to skip it and have more time for dancing!

We did it at the rehearsal dinner and it seemed much more appropriate there. Everyone enjoyed it, including H and I.
