Shoes, Outdoor Wedding

MisRed, on October 12, 2015 at 1:24 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

So my FH is tall, like 6'5 tall (when he stands up straight *sigh* we're working on that) and I'm, well I tend to lie and say I'm 5'6. So he's a full foot taller than me. Our officiant, MoH, and BM are ALL taller than me by at least a few inches. I would like to have some added height, to some extent, but heels are really out of the question since the whole thing is taking place outside with only, grass, dirt, and mulch at our feet. At the reception I'd want flats, I'm not worried about that. It's just photos and the ceremony that I want something that will give me a few inches. The problem is this... I've never found a wedge that I looooove, let alone a fancy one. Anyone have any good shoe sources or brands that made pretty wedges? Or heck, if you have any other advice I'm open to that too. Maybe I'm overlooking something.

Help, please? Thank you!

No one is going to see your shoes. So just pick a wedge thats comfortable and maybe change into a nother pait for the reception (if its indoors).

ETA: Unless you have a short dress???

So these aren't really fancy but I have these and love them. Priced decently too in comparison to a lot of shoes. Mine are the "light taupe" color and I wear them with everything. They also have other colors although I've never seen the other colors in person.

I'm only 5' so everybody is taller than me, including most of my bridesmaids, and DH is 6'3" so I get you on that point too. Don't write off heels just because you're outdoors. I wore heels with these heel stoppers and they worked great and I was on grass, gravel, and wooded areas. My wedding was actually the second outdoor wedding I've used these. I've even worn them with a short dress and you couldn't really see them.

I wore wedges made by keds and they were great. Mine was an outdoor wedding too and my "aisle" was a cobblestone path!! I really wanted some height because I am the short one in my family by a LOT and I didn't want to look too short. My dad is 6'4'' and even many of the women are over or close to 6'. My DH is right at 6' but looks taller because he is such a bean pole (he weighs 140 lbs on a good day, he's often more like 135 and trust me I feed him all I can lol). Plus, I have a bad back and wearing heels makes it hurt less and makes me stand up straighter.

Unless your dress is short no one will see your shoes. IMO it's WAY more important to be comfy.

For our outdoor pictures I picked up heel caps from davids bridal. They go on the end of a heel to prevent you from sinking into the grass. I thought they worked perfectly and made walking around Notre Dame for over an hr to take pictures super easy. I would suggest testing them out before the wedding to make sure they work for your.

I'm having a similar dilemma. My FH is 6'1, I'm 5'4 and my father is 5'5. I don't want to wear heels when he walks me down the aisle and be towering over him so my original thought was to put my heels on when I get up to my FH. Our officiant suggested some sort of stepping stone for me to stand on during the ceremony just so my neck isn't stretching so much to look up at him. Obviously nothing too tall so its not completely noticeable, but just enough to be comfortable. I guess you could also use that for some of the pictures too, that don't have your whole dress in it. Just a thought Smiley smile

Thank you so much for your advice ladies! And e=mc2, you lucky lady. I wish I could do Jimmy's, alas, I chose a custom wedding dress (which I'll share in a few months) instead of fabulous accessories.

I already can tell these links and/or the heels caps are going to be very helpful. You're a wonderful bunch!

We used heel protectors from David's bridal. They worked great! We were able to wear heels and had no problems.

I had an outdoor wedding (all grass, gravel, dirt etc.) I went to DSW looking for a wedge or a chunkier heel that would go with my vintage vibe. I found these for $40! The wider heel meant no sinking in the grass and they were comfortable to wear for several hours. I switched to flip flops after an hour of dancing in these.

After looking for over a year I finally found my perfect wedding wedges a couple of weeks ago. I wanted something comfy, that I could wear again and again, and was teal (both one of my wedding colors as well as my favorite color ever). I got them for $80 at Nordstrom, BC Footwear Spark.
