Short brides - Show me your ballgowns!

Helen, on May 13, 2019 at 1:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 34
I literally started out my dress search by saying “I’m open to anything but a ballgown”. Well my family made me try on a ballgown and I LOVED it so much. My biggest concern is my height! I’m only 5’ and I’m so scared a ballgown will make me look like a stump 😂.

So to all the brides under 5’3 show me your ballgowns!!

I am also 5 feet and said I wouldn’t go ballgown!! It’s in the middle of alterations. It actually got shortened about another half inch after this picture. It feels huge when it’s bustled I won’t lie but I was the most comfortable in a ball gown compared to other shapes and it makes a huge difference when it’s shortened.

So according to the designer my dress is a ball gown but I think it’s closer to an a-line. Lots of fabric in the skirt.

I'm 5 foot too. On this upcoming Saturday I think I'm going to be looking for dresses and ballgowns are my top choice. So I'm in the same boat haha!

Just try them on when you find one you like and make sure you are comfortable in it. I think it really depends on the dress and how you are built. I am 5'1" and looked absolutely ridiculous in a ball gown. My mom and MOH literally laughed (as did I and the consultant) because it just looked so huge on me. With that said, I am all legs and have the shortest torso ever, and it was a huge tulle ballgown, so it did not work for me and completely took me over. It was wearing me, I wasn't wearing the dress. With that said, I have seen tiny girls look awesome in ballgowns so it really just depends!

So beautiful!! Out of curiosity, are you wearing heels in this picture, or in general? I always thought I wanted flats but now I’m thinking I’ll have to go heels with a ballgown!

That dress is beautiful! I would agree that it does appear more a-line, but regardless it looks awesome on you!!

I tried on one that we all laughed about too! I looked like a legit cupcake! But I tried on another and it was actually really nice. I’m just so concerned about what it will look like after alterations since so much length will be removed.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it! I think you will find it looks even better after all the length is removed. I ended up with a fit and flare and the entire bottom was tulle. It was huge. Cathedral train, 16 layers of tulle and crinoline. I loved it before alterations but was very overwhelmed by the bottom being so big. Once she removed all the extra length, I fell in love 10 times harder. It really made all the difference in the world in a positive way. It looked SO much better (and I thought it looked good before!) and I was so much more comfortable.

I am 5’1” (standing on a platform here 😂) The shop said mine is a ball gown but it’s more of a full a-line. I tried on some true ballgowns and it was just too much for me, not the layers but just too bridal!

I am 5'2 and here is mine. Mine is a little long, like a couple inches but the shoes I will be wearing will make it perfect floor length.

I’m 5’3 and it’s not a full picture but they said mine is technically A-line but it is very full to the point I would consider it a ball gown. I don’t have a full floor length picture as the alterations room was basically a long closet

Me too. All my bling is coming from my brooch bouquet and jewelry.
