Short Ceremony

Caitlyn, on February 8, 2022 at 1:24 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 4
So, my husband and I never got to have a ceremony when we got married 6 years ago, and are finally getting to have one in 11 months. This being said, we don't want the ceremony to take forever (especially with kids being there), and don't really feel it's necessary. Any thoughts on how to keep it to a short ceremony? Because we're looking at almost closer to a rededication or vow renewal at this point...

Unless you're having a religious ceremony with lots of parts, like a full Catholic mass, ceremonies tend to be on the shorter side. We had a completely secular ceremony, and ours was around 15 minutes including the processional and recessional. Our officiant said a few words, we read our vows, and that was it. We didn't have people do readings or anything extra like that.

Unless the ceremony goes longer to include religious verbiage or cultural rituals, a ceremony is generally on the short side. Anywhere from 5-30 minutes, whether you are eloping at the courthouse or having an elaborate wedding in an all inclusive venue and the order is standard. They are both valid legal ceremonies.

Out of curiosity, what do you mean that when you didn’t have a ceremony? Did you not sign legal paperwork at that time or was it a low key wedding?

We had originally said we were gonna have an October wedding, but because of some issues where I was living, we rushed everything together in February. Only 1 month after we got engaged. We have a friend who is ordained. So he and his wife signed our marriage license there at their house. So we're legally married, but that's no where near what I was wanting or planned for when I got married. There was zero kinda vows or ceremony at all. Just signing the license then went home.
