My maiden last name was 9 letters long; my married name is 4. I’m divorced and getting remarried and new last name is 6 letters. I prefer shorter and no hyphenated names.... 4 was easy; 6 is not much more! Bring lower in the alphabetical list by last name is a minor inconvenience.....

Decided not to change it. He doesn't like his last name, doesn't want to hyphenate, doesn't want mine either (though I offered). And neither of us like the idea of making up a new one.

I’m going from Lewis, which is pretty simple. To Schwarting, which is much more difficult.
