Short Venue Time

Andrea, on September 1, 2021 at 11:15 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hi everyone!

First time poster here... I have some time before I really need to worry about my wedding day timeline, however it's heavily dependent on the venue at this point, so I wanted to get some opinions.

My FH and I are doing a very casual, small wedding (less than 40 people). The venue that we absolutely love has very strict times, however.

We would be allowed on the property 1 hour beforehand (so 11am) to decorate. The ceremony would be 30 minutes at the wedding gazebo @ 12pm, and then the reception would be at 12:30pm-2pm. We then have 1 hour to clean, and have to be out by 3pm. The venue package includes the food, music, and cake so while I will need to make my selections, I do not have to set these up at the wedding.

Some notes: Decorations will be very limited, as the venue already fits our theme. The reception portion we intend on only using for lunch & cake. We are not doing the traditional parts of the bouquet toss or dancing (neither of us dance, and my dad isn't in the picture).

Our venue is actually located on a Renn Faire grounds, so the venue package price includes tickets for all of our guests to go to the renn faire afterwards, which was our post reception plan, to get drunk and have fun at the faire, which closes around 8pm.

I think I'm most worried about the photos, but I'm wondering if this seems reasonable, if we are cutting the reception portion down to just drinking & eating?

(just a note, it does say I'm getting married in October 2022, but it may be 2023 depending on venue decision. Wanted to join the site though haha)

This seems like a very tight timeline to be able to enjoy your wedding. Personally I would consider at different venue that will allow you more time. The things you want to do don't seem like they will take all that much time, but they will.

This is a very tight timeline! If you are set on this venue, I would hire a day of coordinator to help with set up and clean up so you have more time to get ready, take photos, and enjoy your reception. You will most likely need to take photos before your ceremony to allow you to even attend your reception.

This is sort of what I was worried about, that things may take longer than I think they will. Thank you!

We are not completely set, but it's definitely our top choice at the moment and I am taking everything into consideration. The DOC is something I've questioned on if we would need or not, but it makes sense so that we can focus on photos.

That doesn't sound like a lot of time to enjoy your day, I wonder why they have such tight timelines, they must squeeze multiple events in a day? I don't like that, you should look for other venues.

When I worked in the wedding industry, venues like this were jokingly called "revolving door venues" -- usually they have multiple weddings a day, and as one wedding leaves, the next one is arriving. Still, I think a ren faire wedding sounds really cool and unique! Do they have any "extra" options, ie - for an extra fee, you can add more hours to your rental time? I think the last thing you'll want is to feel rushed on your big day, and that timeline doesn't seem like it allows for a moment to even take everything in and bask in the happiness of your big day. I agree with the above posters that suggested getting a DOC, and definitely taking photos beforehand! Good luck with everything!
