Should I Cancel my Bridal Shower?

My bridesmaids, mother and MIL didn't offer to throw me a shower. I took it upon myself because I thought that was what I was supposed to do. I booked the place I'm having it, made an event on facebook and bought supplies to have it in 5 weeks. Well, after getting bashed on here for throwing my own,...

Well, after getting bashed on here for throwing my own, should I just cancel? Am i being selfish by having one?

Breanna- We will help you answer those questions. We helped you answer this one as well. It seems you just didn't like the answer. Your original question is below. We have answered that, cancel it.

How much do I tip vendors typically?

I think this depends on how much you're paying them. We did 25% and some extra for some of the vendors.

Am I supposed to get a gift for MIL?

It would be a nice gesture, especially if she is helping pay for the wedding.

Who pays for hair/makeup for bridesmaids?

If you are requiring them to get hair and make up done then you pay. If they have the option of doing it themselves or using a MUA, then they pay.

Do I give my FH a gift?

This is up to you and your FH. My DH and I decided not to do gifts.

Since we're having ushers break down chairs do i tip them?

Are you paying them in the first place? Then yes. If not, a small gift would be nice.

Stick around and remember you can't tell tone of voice over text. Don't take things personally, we really do have great advice.

@Breanna - if you have any questions about anything, try the WW search or Google first. All of the questions you have can be found with a simple search of wedding wire. For example, sometimes dry wedding threads will be asked three times by 10AM. Having a dry wedding/cash bar is a no, no and you will find out why they are a no, no with the quick search of WW. Also, if you change your avatar to ANYTHING except the double rings people are more apt to answer your questions without assuming you are just looking for drama.

I do hope that you take wedding wire advice to heart and realize no one is "out to get you" so to speak. People are only here to help. If 99% of people are telling you don't do something - don't do it.

Our reasoning is that we're having everything at a place that is *technically* a park (not like a playground. its park of the parks district in my area and they do not allow alcohol unless you pay a pair of rangers to supervise at $75/hour.

Then you pay the park ranger $75/hour so that you can properly host your guests.

Depends on your reasoning for a dry wedding.

"My religion is against it, everyone at my wedding is of the same religion" Ok for dry wedding

"I don't want to pay for my guests to get drunk because everyone who drinks gets out of control and I have a third cousin who is an alcoholic. Is a coffee bar a good substitute for a bar?" No. No. No. F no.

Well, let me tack onto the reasoning. We are paying everything out of pocket and cannot afford it. Honestly, we're trying to keep our budget under $7000 including honeymoon and our venue was $2500 and food $1500

    How many guests?

Most people on here pay for their weddings out of pocket.

That's when you cut your guest list, unless you've sent out STDs already. I spent $5k on 15 guests for the whole wedding.

Can you just offer beer and wine? That's a lot cheaper than a full bar, and is still considered appropriate hosting.

We're doing beer, wine, two signature cocktails and a sparkling wine for toasts. And we're providing our own alcohol and hiring bartenders, which is saving us a LOT.

I am coming in under $5,000 for 40 guests and they are all having as much alcohol as they want. It's possible.

Even with that addition to your reasoning, it is still poor hosting. We are just doing beer and wine, which we have found to be more affordable than a full service bar. eta: clarity

Yes? Is that a mistake too? I thought you send them out 2 1/2 months in advance?
