Should I Cancel my Bridal Shower?

My bridesmaids, mother and MIL didn't offer to throw me a shower. I took it upon myself because I thought that was what I was supposed to do. I booked the place I'm having it, made an event on facebook and bought supplies to have it in 5 weeks. Well, after getting bashed on here for throwing my own,...

Well, after getting bashed on here for throwing my own, should I just cancel? Am i being selfish by having one?

The only thing that isn't 100% paid for is my food (we've paid 50%) as well as place settings/linens are paid 50%

And when I say "drunk" I mean 2 bottles of wine for 20 people.

Wait, the park venue is $2500? HOLY HELL!

I'm spending $1,500 on food/alcohol for 25-30 people. Have you budgeted for your officiant?

There's no way $200 could ever have included venue rental and cupcakes and snacks AND alcohol for 20 people! Venue OR food maybe. Definitely not enough to get drunk on. 2 bottles of wine for 20 people? A bottle holds 5 servings if you have a stingy pour!

Can you switch to cheaper place settings and/or linens?

I can't even follow this. You lost me at the 400 DJ and the 650 photographer. Plus you have no money for the ceremony, so I'm assuming a friend is going to do it.

Dammmnn how did you spend $200 on invitations? You can get them for cheap on vistaprint.

What are the $400 place settings? Like plates and spoons/forks/knives?

ETA: lol Sarah I had 4 bottles of wine and 2 bottles of champagne and only 8 people drank haha. I don't even drink! (We did go out to the casino bar afterwards though.)

WTF 2 bottles of wine for 20 people. That's less than one sip each. (sarah lol beat me to it).

I also agree $200 can not be for venue rental food. You may want to call and confirm that. What is the food they are providing at your "shower"?

    OP,

I only got through half the comments (mobile, work) so I don't know if this has been said.

It sounds like your BM's, MOH and maybe your mom didn't know about bridal shower etiquette, which is entirely possible and you thought it was a get together for you to have fun with friends and family. Ok. I'll buy it. I can understand not knowing what's customary if you hadn't seen it done or heard about it before.

    So you have 2 options:

    1) Cancel it. I'm sorry, it sucks but throwing your own shower looks gift grabby especially with you sending the invites with registry info.

    2) Talk with your mom, your MOH or BM, say, "I just realized that throwing my own bridal shower isn't customary for the bride" and explain why. Then ask if one of them would like to take over hosting duties. This would be a favor to you so be sure to be appreciative. If one of them accepts they should send out the invites (never on fb! I don't care if it's a private group, take that one down)! Inexpensive invites can be gotten from Michales or drugstores. Only then if someone else hosts and sends the invites can your registry info be included.

Okay, so you were going to pay for bridal shower food yourself. Don't do it. Save that money.

Can you cut flowers, or go to a grocery store for them? Or get some cheap fakes for you and your maids - save maybe $150?

Save the money spent on the self-catered food and put towards alcohol?

What money can you earn between now and the wedding? Lots of people have taken on part time work to help offset expenses; there's a whole thread about it. Babysitting, walking dogs, driving for Uber - I'm doing mystery shopping. All of that is money you wouldn't have had beforehand - money in the bank.
