Should I Cancel my Bridal Shower?

My bridesmaids, mother and MIL didn't offer to throw me a shower. I took it upon myself because I thought that was what I was supposed to do. I booked the place I'm having it, made an event on facebook and bought supplies to have it in 5 weeks. Well, after getting bashed on here for throwing my own,...

Well, after getting bashed on here for throwing my own, should I just cancel? Am i being selfish by having one?

@Breanna, lemme help you! What is the $400 place settings? Like break it down for me.

ETA: Also the $250 for groom's attire, was he planning on buying an outfit or renting? Because you can rent from Men's warehouse for cheaper than $250 and you can buy from places like sears, burlington coat factory for cheaper than $250.

What are you planning to do for a rehearsal dinner?

ETA: Floating an idea here - yard sale. It'll help you declutter and you can make a few hundred that way.

I just read this entire thread. OP I think you're fucked from an etiquette standpoint. You shouldn't have booked that non-refundable honeymoon until you were able to ensure that you'd be able to properly host your guests...including a professional caterer and more than 2 bottles of wine for 20 people. Good luck.

My FH doesn't own a suit. His mother is handling the rehearsal.

Don't give up! We're trying to help you cut costs so you can host your guests.

Matt has great advice, the advice about buying grocery flowers is great advice.

    What about your officiant?

ETA: Also, maybe if you posted the break down for the venue and catering we might be able to help you cut things out.

The self-catering was for the shower if you read her comments.

She has catering for the wedding, right Breanna? What do you have planned for that?

Some people are actually trying to help, look past the snark..

All of Matt's suggestions are excellent - real savings starting to happen here. Can you be more specific about the expenses you left out though? How much is the officiant, what about hair and make-up, your accessories and shoes? How much have you budgeted for tips, security, insurance?

Are you doing programs or favors or menus? All of those are luxuries that can be scrapped.

I agree with Matt. I would take alcohol over a fancy place setting any day. Alcohol with my paper plate, paper napkin, disposable flatware and bare tables...yes please.

Officiant is a family friend, no charge. dj paid in full, photographer paid in full. my hair is getting done by a friend for $30, makeup for $30. accessories/shoes was part of my dress. no security/insurance (never thought about it - probably another thing I messed up) favors came out to be $120 for 110 favors, they're already made. no programs/menus. I have a sandwich board we're borrowing.

Break down the venue pricing: for $2500 what are you getting from the venue?
