Should i do an Engagement party?

Brenda, on March 8, 2022 at 8:41 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 5
Hi everyone,

I’m kinda stuck on this one because both my fiancé and I are Mexican and doing an engagement party is not exactly popular in our culture. I do want to have a mix of a Mexican-American wedding. Is the engagement party worth it?

We skipped the engagement party completely and we dont feel like we missed anything. I think this is more of a personal thing. If you want one then have one if not then pass it and put the money towards something else.

We skipped the engagement party! If someone wants to throw you one, that's great, but if you don't feel attached to throwing yourself one I wouldn't sweat it!

Engagement parties are optional. I actually don't know too many people who have done them, and if they have, they were casual get together hosted by immediate family (think backyard barbecue vibes). So I don't know if they are really an American tradition.

I think a lot of people opt to skip out on the engagement party, we did. I am half Mexican and your right, engagement parties aren't something that is done in our culture. But one thing we love are family gatherings. You can have Cinco De Mayo engagement party if you really want one. Knowing my family, I'd have to tell them it is not required to bring a gift and just to save it for the wedding.

We only had an engagement party because my fiancé's parents and youngest siblings live overseas, and we got engaged right before they visited over the summer. It was a fun way to celebrate with everyone while we were all in one place. And my future MIL loves throwing parties! It was casual and fun, no gifts but lots of activities.

We'll probably have my bridal shower this summer when everyone visits again. Engagement parties aren't a necessity but if it's something you want to do to, go for it!
