Should i Do My Own Makeup, or Get It Professionally Done?

kellyranem06, on March 20, 2018 at 12:11 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 18
I have always prided myself at being really good at makeup, and over the last couple of years, I would even go as far as saying that I've mastered my self application. I was planning on doing my own makeup for my wedding to save a little money, but recently I've read a lot of articles by chance saying that I NEED to have a professional or basically, I won't look good. I need the communities opinion on this. I've always wanted to get my makeup done professionally because I've never gotten it done before , but that's also another expense that I was trying to avoid. HELP!!

P.S. I've attached some photos of me all done up.

There is a slight difference in how to do make up for being photographed which a certified make up artists would have slightly more experience in. There's nothing wrong with doing your own make up if you are truly experienced in it and have done make when going in for professional photos before - however there is something to be said about allowing yourself to not have to stress about your own make up and letting someone else take care of it.

I'm generally on the #teamprofessional camp just because it is a little bit different for an event like a wedding where you will be heavily photographer by a professional who may use more than natural lighting and no filters.

I agree with professional. Also, airbrushing is a great touch a lot of professional artists use.

Let me just say your makeup looks amazing. And honestly if you want to save money I would say it's not a necessity. If you want to learn more about doing your own makeup for photographs there are so many articles on it on the internet.
This is my second wedding. My first one I did my own makeup and I looked great in all my photos. This time around I am a bit older and some spots on my face (hello Sun damage!) That I want to cover up more so I might do the professional route . But I think having your makeup done is more hyped up then what it use to be. Of course if you do get your make up done make sure you get a pre trial. I had some one try and do my eyebrows this weekend, a professional, and I looked scary to say the least lol

Your own makeup looks amazing! Great job! I do agree that having your makeup airbrushed will last longer and look better in pictures. And if it’s something you’ve always wanted to experience I would take advantage of doing it now. Although I do understand it’s not cheap and you do a great job yourself so it wouldn’t be a bad decision.
I suggest to try to squeeze the professional into your budget if there’s no possibility of that I think you can get away with doing it yourself!

I think you look amazing. With that kind of ability I would skip hiring someone.

Your make up does look good. But do you really want to be stressing about that on your wedding day? I'd hire a pro and sit back and relax.

I'd say you could definitely do it yourself if you want to cut that cost, but it will also be nice to be pampered on your wedding day, especially if you have never had it done before.

If you do decide to do your own, I'd practice some more bridal makeup. You're clearly very good, but the looks you posted are more going out/nightlife to me than bridal.

If you have the money, hire a professional just so you don’t have to worry. If it’s too much of a cost, you are more than talented enough to do it yourself. Looks great!!

I love makeup & love doing my own makeup, but I want mine done professionally on my wedding day. I do not want the stress of making sure things are blended right or getting my wing perfect. I want to sit back, drink some wine and have a pro do it.

I'm planning on doing my own makeup as well. I did a lot of research on how to do bridal makeup (looks and best products) and I would certainly practice your "look" so that you're comfortable before the date. I've heard you should then do pictures with your phone, a camera indoors and in natural lighting, to make sure it looks good in all areas. I've always enjoyed doing makeup and actually find it relaxing when I'm stressed.
Have you done engagement photos? I had a lot of people think I had my makeup done professionally for our engagement photos, and complimented me on it. I also feel more confident in my own abilities because I've already seen photos where my makeup was done by myself and photos were taken with my photographer.

Your makeup looks good. Honestly, even if you were a professional though I would highly recommend hiring someone for the day of your wedding. It is a stressful day anyway, and having someone else do your makeup takes that stress off of your day. My hair & MUA ended up helping me the most when it came to a getting ready timeline as well, which is often overlooked. She was able to tell me when we needed to start so I wasn't sitting around all done up (and knowing me, messing it up) but with plenty of time to spare. For me, the money it will save you is probably not worth the stress of doing your own makeup on one of the most photographed days of your life.

Definitely a tricky decision! Your makeup looks AMAZING! I wish I would be able to do that. My only suggestion, as others have noted, is that often times airbrush can last longer and is good for photos. A big question would be the weather of your wedding day (temperature especially). If you choose to do your own, I’ve seen a lot of good YouTube videos for wedding makeup from girls who have done their own! Smiley smile
