Should i go for the more expensive planner who also does floral services?

Charlene, on February 21, 2023 at 8:04 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

So I am looking for a wedding planner and there is one who is less expensive, but they don't do floral and there is one that is more expensive, but floral is also included. I am wondering if there is any benefit to having a planner that also does floral or not. My mother and I are leaning toward yes, but what do you think? Have you ever had a planner that also did floral and how did it go?

I guess the main question is what is their cost compared to hiring the less expensive planner and a separate florist.

Not too much, I was talking with them a bit and they said some of the cost for the floral services is built into the price if you chose to use them as a florist as well. I can think a good benefit to have a person that is both a planner and a florist is that there are less people to coordinate as well so I am kind of leaning towards the fact it might be worth it.

If the cost is similar, I would compare their work with that of other florists in the area. Do they have examples of the florals they have done for other weddings? Maybe an Instagram page where former clients have posted photos of the florals from their events?

Do you like their floral style? Browse their portfolio and ask what they are willing and able to do based on your inspiration pictures. One coordinator we looked at also started a floral business in addition to the main services and we could have gotten a discount rate for using it but we didn’t care for her style and she acted like basic traditional compact bouquets and roses were outside of her skill set and resources because it’s not what the rest of her clients want. One stop shops can easily backfire because the vendor has strengths in one area and are not that great in another but they try to stretch themselves thin and can’t do everything they advertise.

If you really like their floral work, I see nothing wrong with it. But if you only like one of the services each of those vendors provide, I wouldn’t recommend settling in order to knock out 2 birds with 1 stone. I’d recommend coming up with your floral vision that you want for your wedding day, then using that to interview vendors. If you like their floral style and they also happen to provide very good planning services, then that’s awesome and you’ve won double 🙂

If you like the work of the planner/ florist, I'd say go for it. We did that and it worked out really great. There was one person who ran the "floral and décor" part of their services, another who handled all the month-of coordination and logistics leading up to the day, and a third person who was actually present as a coordinator on the day-of. I think having a coordinator who is also looped in on the florals is a big asset since there's a lot of intersection between florals and coordination (set up, who gets what bouquet, transitioning a space, tear down, etc.).
