Should i go with gothic makeup or a more natural look?

Krystal Ann, on May 30, 2018 at 6:30 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 20
My FH and I are having a Victorian gothic themed wedding. I have been looking at different styles of gothic vampire makeup. Everything, from the decorations in and around wedding venue down to the wedding and groom's cake is going to be in the gothic style. With that being said, I am debating on if I should do gothic makeup or if I should go with a more natural look. Here are a few inspiration pics I've found that I really like. Any suggestions?

I am totally biased because we're theme twins and I love the gothic make up style but...

    ...go with your gut.

Do you wear bold makeup like that often? It can be a real adjustment to go from wearing no/natural makeup to dark eyes and bold lips. Depending on how it's done you can end up looking completely different.

Go through a makeup trial and wear it all day. (Do not forget setting spray). Get comfortable with it.

I, personally, will have natural makeup for the ceremony and then vamping it up with some eyeliner and matte lipstick for the reception. It won't be too far off from my usual make up M.O. though, just fancier.

My typical look is either natural or no make-up at all. But I love the vampire look. I want to go all-out for the wedding. With my first marriage, I did liven up my make-up a little and it looked great. I want to have a completely different look this go around. So, I'm going to go with my gut. I'm going to go with the gothic/vampire look with my make-up.

This is truly a personal decision. I rarely wear makeup, so personally for me this would be out of my comfort zone. However if it's your usual makeup or you want that gothic glam look, then do it.

I like the second and fourth one best. Smiley smile I love the eyeliner and lipstick! i'm trying to convince my HMUA to do red lipstick for me. So we're doing a trial to see if I like it. lol I wore red lipstick for my engagement pics and I have to say, I loved the hair with the lipstick. I think whatever you choose, you'll be beautiful. Smiley smile Choose what you want and feel most comfortable.

This is the look I'm going with for my hair. Any thoughts? I sent a pic to FH and he loves it.

If you’re going all out with your theme then I think this is fine. I would worry it would look a little too ‘halloweeny’ rather than bridal, but if that’s what you want then go for it! I really like the second one!

I would also also like to add that if you do this style of makeup you HAVE to go all out with your theme, like black candles, themed bridal party, darkly lit reception and ceremony, black flowers perhaps (you know what I mean... like ALLLL OUT) or it could just end up being you and your FH in themed costumes!

But still- it’s you’re wedding and if that’s what your going for- all the power to ya!! Good luck Smiley winking

I would say go with natural on your face makeup, a wing liner, and a vampy lip. It will still look classic and bridal enough in photos long term, but also go perfectly with your theme.

If this suits your theme and you're comfortable wearing this, I say go for it!! The second and fifth pictures are gorgeous! I would definitely do several trial runs to be on the safe side, but I think it would look great with your theme and the hairstyle you're going for!

I would go somewhere in between. I would tone down the look so it doesn't look like Halloween like the other girl said. Do So a bold lip and bold eyes but in a toned down way.

I wouldn't do the red shadow on the eyes, it can look really weird in photos and from far away. I would go with the super dramatic winged eyeliner, only black, greys etc on the eyes. Then do the super fun lips like in the second photo with the black and red ombre type look.

I think it depends on your dress & hairstyle too. Maybe a deep red lip, so you are in theme, but not in full gothic makeup?

This is my wedding dress and hair for the wedding. I think that when everything comes together for the wedding, I'm going to look absolutely stunning. I've asked Justin ma.y times what he thinks I should wear for our wedding. But each time I ask him for his opinion, he tells me that I'll look sexy in anything I decide to wear. I love this man so much.

Hi Krystal Ann! I love look two! It goes along with your theme but still gives off a subtle elegance! However, you should go with whatever look you think will meet your theme desires best! Good luck!

I think I'll go with either look two or four. I like them both but I'm not sure which one I like better.

I say go all out but I'm biased considering my everyday makeup is very much on the darker side. But you should go with your gut. I think the third choice you posted is great, it's not too dark but would still go with your dress and hair.

Hy Krystal!! I really like the makeup in the first and second pics! I feel like they're a blend between gothic with a nice glam touch. A look like that can give you the best of both worlds and will be very stunning.

Have you found your dress? What style did you get or looking to get?

I think you can be subtle while still being gothic. Its intrinsic to your being, so even without makeup, it's still there. I think the widows peak is kinda cute in the first pic. I love darker lip liner concentrated on the corners, it's actually a technique that makes your lips look fuller.
