Should i postpone root canal until after honeymoon?

Amber, on September 2, 2020 at 7:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 20
Long story short I had a deep filling that was too close to the nerve and needs a root canal. My dentist did a pulpotomy and a temp filling until I could get in for my root canal. The earliest they can see me is sept 14 which is 4 days before my wedding.
I’m not currently in pain due to the pulpotomy. Should I put the root canal off until we get back Oct 2? I know they’re usually simple procedures but my luck something would go wrong and I’d be in pain and I really don’t want that.
Advice or experience?

Dentist here! Don't put off your root canal. You will feel so much better and you don't want to risk having a painful abscess on your wedding day.

Yeah listen to that professional. The swelling should be a ton better after a week.

I keep seeing that it might take more than one appointment and that I might be in pain between appointments, I’m just worried 4 days won’t be enough time to get it all done.

Your face won't be swollen, just the gum. Chew on your other side. Your root won't have nerves anymore so you'll be much more comfy. My pain went away like 36 hours after surgery. I've had 2 done (stupid genetics 😂)

It can possibly take 2 appointments to treat a molar. I would still do it even if you only got it half done. It can be a little sore after, but I wouldn't say it will be painful until you get it finished. Like I said, you don't want to risk pain. And worst case scenario is that you wake up with a swollen face that day. Please get it treated.

Non professional here, it can wait! If its not causing you pain. You have no idea how you will heal and how long the pain will be plus you can't go by other peoples experiences. That's a major surgery too major to do 4 DAYS before your wedding. Like I said non professional advice, it can wait. You waited a long time for this day you will not be able to enjoy it if you're in pain or if your face is swelling, even if its the gums you will still look swollen.

I have had a root canal done. The pain prior was worse to when finished. I had no swelling at all (usually do from any tiny procedure) my bite was a bit off and I did need to return for a minor tweak. I would say the biggest concern I would have if I decided to wait, is that a temp crown or temp filling can come off. They are only meant to last a certain amount of time, but It’s still a tough choice. I hope you can get in on a cancellation but in my experience there was no “healing time” needed. Just a sore jaw and slightly uneven bite. I would not consider it a major surgery. I actually went back to work after mine was done. I did have some minor discomfort as he couldn’t get 100% of the nerve, but that eventually went away. Good luck with your procedure, and I hope you have a magical wedding day 😌

I would def get any dental work done. Teeth can cause pain if left untreated. I had 3 infected wisdom teeth cut and pulled out; I had more pain before seeing the oral surgeon. I felt relief n slight discomfort after. Definitely dont push this off.

I think you should get the dental work done. I have had one root canal. I was home from college for winter break (a total of about 2 weeks in December and 3 weeks in January). After Christmas, my tooth started to hurt and my mom took me in. I needed the root canal but, my mom was worried. I was scheduled to get my tonsils removed a week from when I went to the dentist. He said it should be okay. They scheduled me for two days later and after my mom double checked with my surgeon, I went to the appointment. If I'm being honest it wasn't that bad of pain. After a day I could eat just fine. Then a few days later I was laying on the couch in pain because it literally hurt to swallow water, medicine, and soup.

Long story short if it was to take your tonsils out I would say wait (the older you are the longer recovery takes. I was on strong liquid pain meds for 2 weeks then another 2 weeks of sore throat and not being able to talk. My first week back in college I was pretty useless. My first class of the week was a theatre class). However, a root canal is not something I would hold off on.

I’ve had 2 root canals & didn’t have any complications. You don’t want to be on your honeymoon with any dental issues! Listen to the professional!

Hi! I just had my first root canal just recently. The root canal specialist couldn’t get me in till 3 weeks. My jaw was sore the next day and then I was fine after that. Now I’m waiting to get the tooth filled in by my dentist in 2 weeks because I wanted to make sure my bad infection was taken care of.
I’m not sure where you are located, but certain doctors are backed up with appts. So not when they can get you in.
    It’s really up to you.
If it was a medical surgery like something else I would wait.

I’m a dental assistant, if I were you I wouldn’t wait because you definately don’t want to risk being in pain during all of that time and not being able to go get in anywhere! After the root canal is done you may be a little sore for a day or two but should be much better by your wedding. And then you won’t have to worry about it!

Can you ask your dentist for other recommendations for some else to do it sooner?
