Should i remove appliques from illusion neckline?

Morgan, on May 15, 2022 at 8:27 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 8
Hi everyone! I had my final fitting a couple of a weeks ago, and I was toying with the idea of removing a couple of the lace appliques so the top of the dress is less busy and a little more balanced on both sides. The seamstress recommended against it because of how delicate the mesh is. She was worried about leaving holes in the mesh. Has anyone else tried this? Is it worth getting another opinion? I'm happy enough with the dress as it is, and could definitely be overthinking it!Should i remove appliques from illusion neckline? 1

I love the neckline on your dress as-is! I like that it is asymmetrical. But, it is not me that has to love it. It’s you. So, so what will make you happy!

Before I even finished reading I had the same thought as your seamstress, removing the appliques will leave holes in every single place the lace is stitched to the mesh. Because of how delicate mesh is, the holes will get bigger through the day. It also will make the mesh more fragile and have a higher chance of tearing and getting caught on things.
Personally, I would advise against it unless it is really ruining the dress for you. If you like it as is, just leave it alone. Any seamstress will tell you the same thing unless they're just trying to get a quick buck from you.

I like it as is. If you really want to balance it out it's probably easier to add appliques to the other side than take them off. You could also consider having the mesh totally removed, but I'm sure it's a fair amount of money to do that as well.

Yeah I think it looks great. The asymmetry makes it look very natural and earthy. I wouldn't risk it.
