Should i tip my wedding dress consultant?

Brenna, on August 29, 2022 at 8:36 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

Hi all! So, I went to a very nice bridal salon and ended up finding a dress I really like. All around it was a great experience and my consultant was great but it was my first time out looking and I wasn't ready to commit. I told her that I would get in contact again if I wanted to try the dress on again and would likely purchase it after that. While looking online I found someone selling the same dress in my size unaltered and unused for half the price due to a venue change. I feel really bad standing up my bridal consultant but 1k in savings is a lot. I was thinking of sending a card with some money in it to her at the store and saying thank you for the help and that I found my dress elsewhere. What do you think?

I think a lot of bridal store consultants are used to ladies coming in for visits and not buying from their store at the end of the process. I personally wouldn’t send her tip and save the money for little things that are going to come up during planning. Also mail gets lost or mis-delivered a lot these days, so the money may get lost or stolen. I think only a thank you note expressing your appreciation would do ok.

You definitely don't need to do that, wedding dress shops and consultants are used to people not buying at their shop and going elsewhere all the time. Don't feel obligated to send money or a card, it's just the way the wedding industry goes. Now when or if you get that dress altered you can tip them. Save that $1000 girl, that's a great deal.

You could always just send the handwritten card if you feel like it! I would say you found a dress elsewhere but want to thank her for the great experience. She doesn't need to know you found the same dress somewhere less expensive, per say. Smiley smile

As a consultant, I would appreciate the kind gesture. At most, you could drop off a card with a $5 starbucks gift card or something in it if you wanted to go the extra mile! But only if you want to, don't feel obligated.
