Should i trust my bridal dress shop?

aseaoflove, on July 19, 2019 at 3:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16
I bought my wedding dress at the end of January, at that point the boutique selling me the dress indicated it would take 4-5 months, and said they would communicate to me via email once the order was placed.

2 weeks rolled by without any email indicating the dress was ordered. I called them and they basically said “our bad we’ll email it to you now.” In the email, it said that my dress would was estimated to arrive 6/25, but it could be 21 days late or 21 days early. Thought that was weird, but okay.

I didn’t contact them for 3-4 months, reached out a on 6/7 asking them if it was still targeted to come 6/25 (I was excited!) and they responded my shipping date was scheduled 6/15 with no changes as of yet and would let me know when the dress would arrive.

6/25 rolls around, no update. I go on vacation and come back, contacted them for an update on 7/8. The owner told me it should arrive sometime this week, specifically Thursday 7/18. It has since been over 21 days late.

7/18 rolls around, and I get a text end of day saying my dress will be shipped out Monday 7/22 and should arrive 3-4 days to the shop. At this point, I’m just thoroughly annoyed.

Is this normal for brides to get updates (or no updates for that matter) about the status of their dress, and is it constantly delayed like this? I’m just curious bc at this point I’m feeling a bit disappointed with the service I’ve received so far, and am seriously considering not allowing them to altar my dress. Should I be paranoid and take it somewhere else once dress arrives? Any personal experience would really help!

Unfortunately this is the norm, especially of it's a chain store. There's so many posts asking the same question. You'd think customer service would mean more.

That's horrible! They are totally unprofessional! You seem calmer than I would be, I'd lose it! I ordered my dress June 5th and had it before July 4th. I would try and stay calm for your own sanity, but I would be only them CONSTANTLY

Thanks Kelly! I was wondering if this the norm at other places. I tried to ask other brides I personally knew but most bought theirs off the rack (maybe I should have done that). Thank you for your perspective and yes the customer service has been sub par so far.

Luckily our wedding isn’t until November, so I feel like I still have a ton of buffer if anything (hence why I haven’t freaked out yet). But it is borderline annoying with the communication or lack thereof. I’ll have to deeply consider if I should trust them with the alterations.

I don't think I would. I have to set my first appointment up for that for sometime next month and I hate having to leave my dress!

I ordered my dress in January and was told it wouldn't come in until mayish. It got there in March and they only sent me an email saying if I didn't pick it up in three days they'd send it back and charge me a restocking fee.
Thank goodness I live nearby and didn't have plans. But yes, unfortunately subpar customer service is not uncommon with dress shops.

This is terrible!! I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. This has not been my experience at all. I ordered my dress from David's Bridal. They told me it would take up to 8 weeks to come in, but it actually came in only 4 weeks!!

If I were you, I would start looking into alternatives for alterations. I just wouldn't really trust this store after all the back and forth, and changing of the dates.

Mine didn’t get delayed, but they didn’t tell me when it came in so it sat there in the shop for an extra month 😐 I would have called sooner but it wasn’t my deadline yet. Then they said I should have checked my spam folder...no email in there, they just didn’t bother to contact me😐 once I had my dress in my hands though I got over it

Depending on where the dress is coming from (most of them are from China) there is going to be an issue with customs, especially with our current president. It is not uncommon for things to be delayed and the bridal shop would have no idea what is happening with the shipping once it has left the supplier.

That's a very interesting experience that you are facing. I am sorry to hear that it has not been all that great! I did not have this type of experience with my dress at all. I ordered it and it came within about 4 weeks and I picked it up when they called a day later. The whole time the store was letting me know. They called three times before I was able to pick it up. Once to let me know that the order was processed, the second was to see if I needed anything else and told me it was shipped, and the last that it had arrived and was ready for pick up. Honestly, I would find someplace else for your alterations, in my opinion.

My dress actually came in early but I can only imagine how crazy I would be going if it was delayed. I never got any kind of order or shipping notice, just a call when it arrived at the shop. But if you were promised updates its 100% not okay that you had to reach out to get them.
With that, alot of times it's not the shop that's in control of the timeliness of your dress shipping but rather the designer. I whole heartedly think the shop should have done a better job keeping you informed if that's what was promised but it's not necessarily their fault it shipped late.

I ordered my dress on 2/23/19 and they told me 4-8 months. I called about a month later just to see what they estimated time was since they ordered it. It was mid to late September. I was at the bridal salon picking up my girls dresses with them and decided to ask just for an update. Which they couldn’t give it to me since the CEO left for the day. So I ended up calling on Wednesday and now the lady is saying the first week of October 😩😔

I don't know what the norm is, although that doesn't sound that unusual from what I've been hearing. I got really lucky, I went to David's Bridal on June 28th, found and ordered my dress, they said it would arrive sometime in the middle of August, and it arrived today. Best of luck, I hope it all works out.

I ordered mine about the same time as you, and mine came in mid June. I got an email 4-6 weeks after ordering and they told me my ship date. They added a couple weeks in case of delays, which they said late July. There wasn't any back and forth really

I didn’t know mine was there until I was called. They said it would take 4-6mo and it was 3 weeks!!!!
I was out of the country when it came in and asked them to hold it until I could make the 500 mile drive to the area the dress shop( davids Bridal in Syracuse) and venue are in. They refused, even tho it was only 4 days!!!!, sent the gown and belt and the dress was damaged!
Sorry thst you are going thru the crazy, but it is normal for the dresses to come at random times. If you can make sure to remind them the dress MUST be there and all alterations done by “X” date

Woof, sounds like a lot of people are experiencing the same. I’ll just have to make sure they are on top of the alterations (not 100% I’m going with them yet, still hard to decide)
