Should I wear glasses or no???

Warrensarecool, on May 30, 2015 at 11:59 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 40

Hi! My name is Lindsey and I am getting married next November of 2016. I know..it's still a while away, but I'm currently a student, and when school starts again in August I'm not going to have a lot of time to plan whilst completing classes, so I'm planning a little bit at a time. So! I wear glasses on an everyday basis. I have since I was like 13. I CAN see without my glasses. I can see up close, but far away everything looks very blurry. When it comes to wedding day, I never saw myself wearing glasses, and I don't know whether or not I need to for my big day. I don't want to do my makeup and then my glasses cover it all up, but I also don't want to bypass most of my wedding day because I can't see ya know?? I don't know what to do!! I will be getting a new pair of glasses this coming up June, and I have not picked my wedding dress yet..so whatever pair of glasses I get will have to match my dress if I wear them..if I don't wear them can I get like temporary contacts?? Hellppp

Most eye doctors will do a trial pair of contacts before you actually invest in an order for 6-12 months. That could be an option if you just want them for the day. I've never gotten new contacts without having to do a week in a trial pair before they are ordered.

Make sure you try them well in advance! I can't wear contacts because of some problem with my cornea Smiley sad so I won't wear glasses for the pictures or the ceremony. Like yourself, I'll be able to see where the JP and my fiance are standing, but I won't be able to tell if he's smiling or not till I'm next to him lol

Contacts! I actually didn't want any my wedding day either- so I got LASIK. My employer ended up paying half. (With the ins plan we have at work- we have an HSA account) So I contributed $1000 over a year and my employer also contributes $1000 per year for each employee.

    SO worth it!

I wore contacts for my wedding although I mostly wear glasses day-to-day. If you go that route, try them out well in advance, they can feel a little weird until you get used to them and you may want to start wearing them for a few hours at a time before wearing them for a long event.

Contacts!! go to the eye doc now and get fitted for some. there's a thousand diff types to try that all fit differently.it took me a long time to find a pair that fit me. i wear glasses everyday and contacts when i'm at a club/ the gym/ the beach. (I don't qualify for lasik, boo). but you need to get used to them now so there's no problems the day of the wedding. and you'll get trial ones before committing to a huge box.

Contacts do require a breaking-in period, or at least they did when I tried them -- the first day you wear them for two hours and then take them out, the next day four hours, and so on, increasing your wear time by two hours a day until you're wearing them as long as you need to. I'd be nervous about wearing them unless you know there's always going to be a clean bathroom available in case you need to remove them -- if they slip off-center it's super painful.

It sounds like you don't like your current frames very much? In which case a new pair of glasses for the wedding could be another solution. Check out Zenni Optical and Coastal.com if cost is a concern -- you just pick a pair of frames (based on the measurements of a pair that fits you well), give them your prescription and pupillary distance, and they mail them to you. Warby Parker does a home try-on thing where you pick five frames and they'll send you sample pairs to try on, too.

YMMV, of course -- personally I've been wearing glasses all day every day since I was 5, and I find taking them off to be unpleasant unless the weather is incredibly mild -- I'm so used to the glasses shielding my eyes that they tear up pretty much in any noticeable wind.

Kahlcara how did you do that? did you just get contacts for your wedding day, or you got permanent contacts? does that make sense? I guess I'm asking if there's such a thing as temporary contacts??

Kay I DID like my frames when I got them 2 years ago lol. My insurance allows me to get a new pair of frames every two years, so I'm definitely do for another pair. So in answering your question, no I don't like them anymore lol.

I wear contacts usually, but otherwise I have to wear glasses. I'm legally blind without them. I'm planning on wearing contacts but if I run out or they don't fit right, I'm going with glasses. It doesnt make sense to me to give up seeing expressions or your whole field of sight just because you don't want people to see you in your glasses. They really don't impede that much, especially with a professional photographer, and chances are everyone sees you in them anyway.

Michelle that's kind of how I'm feeling. I don't know if I can necessarily afford contacts at this moment in my life...but I'm going to research and see if I can find a less expensive plan..and my family does know that I wear glasses and sees me in them quite frequently. I just don't want to wear glasses in my pictures. Maybe I can just get a dress with pockets and stick them in there when I need to LOL

Contacts. Have your glasses on stand by for later in the night if need be. Like others have said, get them early to get used to them. I wear contacts about 50% of the time.

When I've gotten eye exams the eye doctor will always give a free pair of contacts.

There are daily wear contacts. Wear them once, throw them away. You have to have the exam of course (it's not the same script as an eyeglass script). Actually, do it before you wedding. They'll give you sample pairs and find out if contacts work for you (stick with it, it takes a few tries to get them in and out, but eventually you'll be able to do it without a mirror if you have to). You just need to be sure that you can wear contacts. Most people are fine with them, but not everyone.

Thank you so much. I'm definitely going to look into the daily wear contacts. Like I said, I do have an eye appointment coming up very soon so I'm going to ask them if I can try some out.

If you wear them every day, then you should probably wear them. When my oldest sister got married and I was a bridesmaid, she said I had to take my glasses off for pictures (since I was the only one of 8 in the party with glasses). I still look at the pictures and think I look so strange. I've been wearing glasses daily for years. Even if I would wear contacts I look strange. So I'm going to. FH sometimes wears contacts so he might. So I advise you to take some pictures when you are out and about, without your glasses. Then see if you feel weird looking at them.

ETA: but I have always needed my glasses to see, even up close. So I had to hand someone else to hold my glasses while taking pictures. And immediately put them back on.

I don't plan on wearing my glasses. I have astigmatism and also am near-sighted. My vision is not really all that bad, I just have bad depth perception. I can't read far away, but don't think I would need to on my wedding day. The way I explain my vision is with my glasses I can see in HD, without it is standard definition. Things are a bit more "crisp" with my glasses. I have had issues with contacts in the past and refuse to get them again. I even had punctum (not sure of the spelling) plugs put in my tear ducts because my eyes would dry out so much with contacts.

You might talk with your ophthalmologist about 1) new glasses, 2) contacts and 3) Lasik Eye Surgery. See which option is really best for you -- long term as well as for your wedding. See if your student health insurance will pay towards any of these options. Whatever you do, do not try anything new in the days or weeks before your wedding.

Best wishes for looking great, seeing well and feeling great!!!

Definitely try out contacts now. You don't want to be blurry eyed on your wedding day and you don't have to wear contacts every day but it could take a few different brands before you find a pair you like.

I have the monthly ones. I just don't wear them normally because they bother my eyes if I wear them for more than like 8-10 hours and I have a long commute and class all day and I think it's a pain to wear them and bring my glasses, contact case and solution everywhere with me. I also had some problems with dry eyes a few years ago and having to use eye drops (prescription and OTC moisturizing ones) when I wore my contacts. It doesn't bother me to wear them for a day, though, so I use them if I have an event to go to.
