Should we take photographer up on free offer for extra shoot?

Anna, on September 1, 2021 at 7:56 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
We were supposed to take our b/g shots during golden hour, but a downpour came out of nowhere during that time, so the only formal b/g pictures were taken with family before the ceremony, and a couple snapped quickly before cocktail hour in anticipation of the golden hour later. We only booked 4 hours with her, so no getting ready shots and minimal bridal shots before the ceremony (all taken inside). The photographer pulled us aside before leaving for the night and said that she wanted to offer us a portrait session to make up for the photos we missed. I’m leaning towards taking her up on the offer, but is it rude? Was it more of a courtesy gesture we shouldn’t say yes to?

The venue has beautiful gardens all over it, and one secret garden we were looking forward to using for those pictures that we won’t have without this extra shoot, along with all the beautiful photos I envisioned showing off my veil and taking intimately with my husband. If we do say yes, I’ll definitely need to send my dress for dry cleaning (and preserve it later), pay for my hair to be done again, but my makeup artist most likely won’t be available (she travelled from out of town), so I would do my own. Anyone else done this before? Any suggestions?

I would definitely take her up on it, that was really nice to offer because she didn't have to offer anything at all. It seems like she is providing excellent customer service and definitely deserves a tip if you take her up on the offer.

If I didn't have any professional bridal portraits then that is something that I definitely would do.

That was super nice of her! If you want the photos, definitely accept her offer. If she didn't want to do the photos, she wouldn't have offered it as an option. If I were a photographer and had promised portraits to a couple as part of their wedding package, and then they didn't get to do them due to something outside their control, I would definitely be willing to retake them later. If you're willing spend the cost to redo your hair and clean the dress, and if you want the photos, I would accept the offer.

Take her up on it. If she wasn't sincerely offering, then she would not have offered at all.

Yeah I thought it was incredibly generous to offer, especially because we didn't complain or say anything about being disappointed, she just pulled us aside to say she would love to do it for us. We did give a large tip to her the night of, but I think we will take her up on it and give her an additional tip for going above and beyond.

I definitely would. She wouldn't have made the offer if she didn't want you to take it.

I would do it for sure! She wouldn't have offered if she weren't sincere about it.

You better take her up on the offer! Those sessions aren’t cheap and she wants to make sure you got what you initially paid for since you missed out on shots! That’s so rare for a photographer to offer so that’s incredibly nice! I feel like it would be rude not to take her up on it!
