Should your theme be meaningful/representative?

I’m curious to get others’ thoughts on this. I’ve recently witnessed several weddings and showers with themes that are not meaningful at all to the bride or the couple. witnessed several weddings and showers with themes that are not meaningful at all to the bride or the couple. Examples: A breakfast at Tiffany’s wedding shower and the bride had never even seen the movie.
A boho themed wedding, and neither the bride nor the groom lived a bohemian lifestyle, dressed in bohemian fashion, or decorated their house in any sort of boho style
A “royal” themed wedding, when obviously neither party is royalty LOL
I can’t help but wonder if these couples will look back and regret choosing an arbitrary theme for such an important event, rather than something that is meaningful, or reflects them as a couple. I know there is always the trendy theme of the moment that we see on Instagram, but the cool factor passes and it becomes old news/out of date quickly.
Obviously couples can choose to do whatever they want at their weddings! But I’m just curious what other people’s thoughts are on this. If a couple chooses to do a theme for such an important event, do you feel it should be something meaningful, or representative of the couple?

I think that's the fun part. Having a theme reflects what you like and gives design direction for all the details. Everything doesn't have to be serious or meaningful. A bride might just think boho style matches the venue or the mood she's going for. I'm having a castle in Texas type theme and I've never been in a castle lol. But it reflects how I want to feel on that day. I am going to wear a crown when I enter the ceremony because I want to feel like a damn queen 👑

Will I look back in 20, 30 years with regrets? No way. For one, I don't judge others' decisions, why would I be judgemental of my own. I don't look back at my parents' 1975 wedding and think, omg I can't believe they wore so much blue polyester. I think, wow look at what was in style back then, and dang my dad had style lol.

That’s awesome you have found a theme that reflects you, your likes, and how you want to feel on your special day. You rock that crown, queen! 🤘🏻👑

Couples should do what they want. My theme was fall because it was fall. All weddings, regardless of theme or on trend eventually look somewhat dated or "of the era" just because things are constantly changing.
