Show me photos with and w/o your veil!

I just got my dress and it has a long sweeping lace train. I hadn't even really thought about a veil until the bridal boutique suggested I try one on. I love those couple kissing photos framed by the veil and how it looks for some photos, but otherwise I don't really feel any attachment to wearing one. The only reason I can really see to wear one is that it's the only time I'll ever get to do so and the veil can look amazing in photos. I have not yet decided how to do my hair, but if I did get a veil it wouldn't have a blusher/would not cover my face, and I would definitely want to remove for the reception. I don't need to worry about hiding ornate back details or buttons on my dress, because the back (while beautiful) pretty much goes along with the rest of my dress. I also don't think I need a veil to look bridal as my dress is quite obviously a wedding dress, especially with the long train.

Brides, can you share photos of you in your dress with and without your veil? I'm trying to get a better picture of how a veil can complete the look.

Also, if you have any practical reasons why you did or didn't choose a veil, that would be helpful. Thanks!

I had both my dress and veil custom made. I love the look of cathedral length veils because I think they really add drama and romance to the overall bridal look plus I like the way the veil framed my face and dress. I wore my veil for the pictures before the ceremony and during the ceremony and then removed it after the ceremony.

I wasn’t going to wear a veil because of my age and the fact this was my second wedding. I eloped on my college junior year abroad so I didn’t have a veil (or a dress) then either! At my final fitting my seamstress made me try one on when she learned I’d never worn one. She said that nothing makes you feel bridal and princess-like until you put your veil on on your wedding day. For me, this was true; although everyone has her own experience. I’m so glad I wore one. The fourth picture is during our reception. It’s hard to see that I’m not wearing it there so I included a picture from a fitting to give you an idea.

    Hey there, Kari Smiley smile

I would recommend you check out some BAMs (back and married posts) to see some bridal looks and how a veil contributed. This is last week's round up of BAMs - BAM! Last week's wedding photos, engagement pictures, and more! 📷.

The Real Weddings section would also be a great part of the website to check out for wedding day looks!

Honestly I kind of regret the veil a little bit. It didn't look the way I envisioned (I'm sure part of that is due to me not trying it on in different places enough) and taking photos people kept putting their arms over it and pulling it. I was so over it by the time we were done with photos at the church. I took it off in the limo on the way to the reception and handed it off to my DOC as soon as we got to the venue.

That's super helpful to know. I think they are pretty but can totally imagine myself fiddling with it or it getting in the way, and can definitely see my FH pulling on it accidentally during photos and it driving me nuts! We are having an outdoor ceremony too so I can just imagine it and the long train being a handful to keep orderly, especially if it's windy.
