Show me your diy floral arrangements!!!

Taylor, on October 4, 2019 at 10:50 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 5

I think I've decided on using Fifty Flowers for the florals at my wedding! I have almost exactly a year and am SUPER excited to do this project and save a lot of money. I'd love to see everyone's DIY arrangements, specifically real flowers! I had an idea of what I wanted but that has slightly changed. Spam me with photos, inspo, what all you used flowers for, and the price breakdown! Thanks!

I used FiftyFlowers and was very happy with the experience! A bit of work, to be sure— time consuming and a little bit of a mess and I definitely needed an extra pair of hands on occasion, but overall a nice project.

I did bouquets and boutonnieres for the bridal party (though skipped flowers for anyone else [that time and effort mentioned above caught up to me and I asked the parents if they really cared about having flowers and they said no!]). Simple centerpieces (that’s the first pic— them in their assembly line, don’t have a finished product pic handy at the moment)— they were “3 item” centerpieces — a tall bottle (with a red flower), a short bottle (with a white flower), and a cut bottle with seaglass, water, and a floating candle— super simple, but nice floral accent. And then more accents here and there— a single blue bottle with a few flowers for the cocktail tables, and bar decorations. Buckets of flowers for ceremony decor at the start and end of the aisle (these were repurposed and placed around our sweetheart table during the reception) — just kept everything simple to make it easier on myself.

I probably spent around $300 on flowers, and I DEFINITELY over ordered (had one type that I barely even used) , but it was nice to have a variety on hand to choose from and to be able to pick out the nicest flowers for the most important places. Red gerber daisies are my favorite flowers so they were the most important thing to me, and then I stuck to white flowers for filler (had 3 different types of white flowers!). The greenery I actually just picked up locally as I knew I wouldn’t use more than 20 pieces so didn’t want to over do it with a bulk order. Retrospectively I could’ve done without one of the types of white flowers too, but oh well; not a huge loss. Before placing my order I did play around with some practice flowers— both to get a feel for my comfort level with actually putting together a bouquet and to really figure out what parts I would need — so I grabbed a sampling of grocery store flowers and played around, and that’s how I ultimately chose the extras I wanted

How pretty!!! The flowers showed up in good condition? No complaints about the company?

I was super happy with the company— they gave lots of info about care and stuff so I knew what to expect . When ordering, I put in the date of the event and selected a delivery date a couple days before. After my order I got a text from them saying for 2 of the types of flowers, It would be ideal if they actually shipped a day earlier (I guess that type of flower takes a bit more time to “wake up” and fully open up after their journey)— it was my choice but if I wanted to do it, they’d adjust my order automatically. I thought that was nice. They arrived right on time. They shipped via fedex and I was watching the tracking info and was a little nervous as it didn’t update much, but sure enough they made it as expected! (So I wouldn’t sweat the tracking info page — it basically said the flowers were in Colombia until they were out for delivery, lol). ONE type of flowers didn’t hold up quite as nicely as the others but I think it was user error and had to do with the bucket I was storing those ones in (*clean* bucket is important!).

This is how they arrived — stem trim and into water, and the second pic is my staging area haha. The red and white daisies on the right had arrived that day, this pic was like 9-10 hrs after their arrival so you can see how they perked right up. The other flowers arrived the day before.

I did also learn that it’s important not to overcrowd the buckets! A few that I had really packed in didn’t thrive as much as the others, so I’d advise having plenty of vessels to hold them in so they all have enough space

I used Sams. 100% recommend. Paid under $500. 17 tables at the reception, all bridal party florals, and ceremony florals. I wrote up a whole post about it here with the breakdowns.
