So my FH apparently wanted to surprise me for the holidays. He started asking me questions yesterday and finally just caved and said he is too nervous about spending that kind of money on jewelry without my input since I don't wear jewelry (I am extremely allergic to nickel, it burns my skin, so I usually skip jewelry all together). I started helping him find/design a wedding band to which he said "shouldn't we start with the engagement ring and match the band to that". It never even crossed my mind that I would get an e-ring, so I was kind of in shock. He started asking questions about ring styles and carat size and I am now so lost and a little stressed. I want to pick something I love but all of these decisions are intimidating.... Solitaire, studded, 3 stone, Halo.... There are so many choices my head is spinning so I decided to ask you for some help. Can you show me your engagement ring and tell me a little about it? If you helped design or chose your ring, how did you decide on that particular one? How did you decide what carat size to pick, what setting to choose, and wether or not to add accent stones? I feel stupid not knowing about all of this stuff and I tend to be indecisive in general so this one is kinda tough for me. I don't want to make the wrong choice and regret it...

This is mine! Its a .50 carat solitaire. The diamond shape is marquise, set in a 18K yellow gold setting. I didn't help pick mine out, FH designed it himself and ordered it without me knowing! He knew I wanted solitaire because I'm very simple with my jewelry and don't like big chunky over the top rings. I also have slim fingers, and this was MUCH more my style. He knew I loved marquise shape because my moms ring is the same shape diamond, so it's special that we match. My wedding band is just a band of diamonds. Because I have slim fingers, the .5 carat size is perfect for me because it's not too big and gaudy looking but it looks bigger than normal on my hand. Also, the marquise shape is awesome for tricking people! It's very long and short, therefore the size looks way bigger in this cut than in other diamond cuts. My coworker also has a .5 carat e-ring and my diamond looks almost twice the size of hers because of the different styles of cuts we have. I think marquise looks like it gives you more for your money.

Here's mine! I love the rose gold infinity band! The only real advice I had for him was that rose gold was my favorite.

This is mine. I had no input on it but I love it so much. The center diamond was on my late Papaw had and my dad gave it to FH when he asked for my dad's blessing.

Mine is 18K yellow gold, the diamond is a bit over a karat on a size 7 finger. It is from Jamesallen.com I recommend shopping online for the diamond. We went to a few brick and mortar stores and for the same color, cut, clarity and carat the diamonds were thousands of dollars more. They also let you look at zoomed in 3d rotating pictures of the diamonds. It saved us a lot of money. We first went to stores so I could figure out what I liked. What I liked in the pictures was not what I liked on me so it was a good but stressful learning experience. Don't forget the jewelry insurance!

I love your ring! I am also a fan of the Marquise cut. The 3 cuts I have been looking at are Marquise, Oval, and Cushion. How does the solitaire look with the studded band? I'm weird about matching things and I worry that I wouldn't like the studded band with a solitaire ring.

So pretty! I am also choosing rose gold since it is bonded with copper instead of nickel. We wanted to match our rings and the one he really likes is rose gold with black tungsten so I may add black diamond accents to mine in the spirit of matching.

Yes I also loved oval! Honestly, the studded band is perfect and matched amazing. We have only bought 1 band for now for the wedding but we plan to buy a second so I can wear one of each side of the ring.

Love your ring. The twist looks really elegant! Going to the store is actually a really good point. I have no idea how any of this will look on my hand, so I may just have to pop by the jewelry store and see how it looks in person.

That's really good to know. We designed this beautiful carved solitaire that I almost immediately fell in love with and I kind of wanted a studded band but was refraining because it didn't "match"

Mine is a 3 stone! .5 carat tw in 10K white gold with a size 5 band! I went with him to choose but he saw this ring in the display case and knew it was mine. They pulled it out and put it on and I fell in love 😍

My engagement ring is a 1 carat emerald cut solitaire with round diamonds on the band. I wanted White Gold over Platinum due to the weight. I wear a size 7 ring. Hope this helps!!
