Siblings young children at the wedding- how to manage

Brittany, on January 2, 2022 at 10:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 3
We are only having our nieces and nephews at our wedding no other kids- but My sister will have a 6 month old and my brother will have a 1.5 year old and a 4 year old. We are having a Friday night wedding so the whole timeline is pretty late. How have you other brides managed or plan to manage what to do with kids so your siblings don’t have to leave the party early and miss you wedding. My brother and sister are prob the two most important people I care that get to stay and spend the entire party with me. I told them I will give them a plus 1 to invite their mother in laws to the wedding if they’d take hem back to the hotel early (hotel is 7 mins drive). Any other suggestions?? Thanks!!!

You can also hire a babysitter to supervise them in a back room during the reception. I know a couple who had a lot of small kids in their wedding and after the ceremony was over, they were just able to relax/nap/play on an iPad or read books with the babysitter until the party ended.

I’ve actually explicitly said no kids (in a tactful manner) at my wedding and my cousins who want to be there have hired a sitter for the night to watch their kids. I have a few cousins that are pooling together for this. You could also proactively offer a sitter if it fits in your budget.

We are not inviting any children to the wedding for this exact reason. We did not want their parents to have to worry about watching their children all evening, or having to leave the celebration early (or either of our parents taking on the responsibility of watching the grandkids). No one has had an issue with this, and they have secured their own childcare for the wedding.
