Signature cocktail-How do i make it purple???

Anonymous, on August 28, 2012 at 11:38 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 15

Heres my situation.. My parents bought us 5 bottles of the Cruzan coconut rum (my fave) on their cruise to use for the signature cocktail. My problem is I want to have a yummy rum cocktail but I would like it to go along with our color theme and have a purple hugh... does anyone know how to keep my coconut rum and have the color I want? I wanted to experiment with blue liquor and rasberry (blue red=purple right) but I was hoping someone had a quick answer before I pay $100 on a lot of random liquor

Its called a purple turtle but you could change the name..i like purple passion, love potion or purple haze for names.

    1 oz coconut rum

    1 oz triple sec

    2 oz cranberry juice

    ½ oz blue curacao

Add ingredients to cocktail shaker filled with cracked ice. Pour through strainer into rocks glass. Garnish with a cherry and pineapple chunk on a skewer.

Dont use food coloring. I hear it will make ur guest tummys hurt if they have more than 2.

Blue + red = purple. So take Blue Curaçao (which is blue) and any red juice - cherry, cranberry, whatever you like. Tada Smiley smile

Chambord is great, Creme de (or anyhthing) Cassis, Acai Berry Juice. They all have great flavor and you dont need to use lots to get the color you want... if all else fails, ask your caterer to boil some peeled beets! Use the water and there you have it. It has no flavor and even though it is water, it will not water down your drinks... they should also be able to make purple ice from the beet water...

I dont think a couple drops of food coloring in moderation will make people sick or stain their teeth. Sure too much would...Tons of food has food coloring, you'll eat more in a piece of cake. Blue Curacao and the like are filled with coloring.

Ive made pictures of margaritas and such and did a few drops of coloring, no stained teeth or sickness. I think too much of it could make you sick.. Maybe some caters/cake bakers could chime in on food coloring.

For using red you can just use grenadine, Its just red sugar basically, they say cherry but doesnt taste like cherry at all IMO. lol

What are you using as a mixer? I think a pina colada/pineapple mix would be yum! Make the mix by the pitcher and just add ice/booze.

I was going to suggest something with blue curaco and cranberry juice, but heather beat me to it! that drink sounds yummy! if you wanted the rasberry flavor, you could just cran-raz...
