Signature Cocktails

Madison, on June 1, 2021 at 6:51 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15

Hi!

Trying to get ideas for our signature cocktails for our October wedding. We get to pick 2 signature cocktails for our reception and I'm trying to look for something that's creative, but not too crazy complicated and requires a ton of different mixers/alcohols. So far all the fall drinks on pinterest are apple cider and pumpkin spice, which I'm not really a fan of. So I'm just looking for some other ideas! If your wedding is/was in the fall what are/were your signature drinks? Thanks everyone!

Ask your guests ( a small group of family/friends who are invited) what their preferences are because they will be ones drinking them. Every group is different in what they like and dislike.

    Cranberry is popular for fall/winter

I always like the idea of 'his and hers' cocktails that represent the couple - for us, this would be espresso martini for me, because I'm a huge coffee lover. My fiance loves an old fashioned (although that one is not so easy to replicate as a 'jug' style cocktail! The other option is something that somehow fits your colour scheme.
Our colours are peachy pinks, so something like a pink grapefruit paloma or peach bellini would work well.

I agree with Rosie on thinking about the his/hers route. That's what we did. I did a French 77 (champagne, elderflower liquor, and lemon juice) and my husband's was a bourbon punch. It doesn't necessarily have to be *fall* themed. It can just be your 2 favorite drinks or based on your colors or inspired by your dogs, etc.

I would pick drinks you like and not worry too much about the seasons! Ours is a very basic gin and tonic with cucumber and lime (my go-to at weddings) and a drink with bourbon/ginger beer concoction with bitters and berries.

If you want something seasonal I would stick with cranberry or apple flavors, and avoid the pumpkin route (I feel like pumpkin is super polarizing, especially as a drink). I feel like a dark and stormy (rum and ginger beer) is a popular and simple classic that also feels very "fall" like to me.

My fiance and I are just picking our favorite cocktails, his is an Orange Crush (orange vodka, triple sec, fresh squeezed orange juice and sprite/club soda) and mine is a Moscow Mule. I originally almost didn't pick that as mine bc I didn't want two citrusy drinks but decided they fit us best so who cares

Another route you could go: think of cocktails that are characteristic of the region/city your wedding is taking place in. This could work out well if you've got lots of guests coming from out of town. For example, we're getting married in Phoenix so our signature cocktails are going to be margarita, mojito, etc.

My personal recommendation is finding two liquors that your guests tend to prefer, and choosing cocktails made with those.

For example, we're going with one tequila drink and one whiskey/bourbon drink. This covers what our crowd tends to drink (sure, they'd get a vodka drink if it was all there was, but that isn't what they'd pick if they went out somewhere).

I kinda was thinking of doing this. My favorite is a Vodka Cranberry so I’m sure I could figure out a way to make it look a little fancier. And my Fiancé loves mules and there are tons of different choices for those! Thanks!

Yeah I’m not into pumpkin flavored anything really, so that’s definitely not on my list! I love cranberry so I might do something with that! I’m not trying to strictly do fall drinks, but I just felt it would be odd if I did a more spring/summer drinks like a pina colada in chilly October.

Agreed a pina colada would be unexpected in October (just like I think it's weird when breweries have porters and stouts available through mid-summer). It could work if your wedding had a tropical or vacation theme though. But there are plenty of drinks that I think work year round or would be good in the fall.

Bourbon, mulled wine, cranberries, etc all make me think of fall. You can search "fall cocktail recipes" for ideas, like these 44 Easy Fall Cocktails from Delish. A lot of them are pumpkin or apple focused, but something in there might give you an idea. I also think there are a ton of classic cocktails that just work year round, like a gin and tonic, vodka soda, moscow mule, or old fashioned. I would just think of your favorites and knock out any that simply don't make sense, then narrow it down further from there.

I 100% agree! I’ve been looking around for fall cocktails on Pinterest and Google, but SO many are pumpkin and apple. But I think you’re right, just keep narrowing down the list!
