Significant gift for So's milestone birthday? Help!

mrswinteriscoming, on December 6, 2020 at 5:46 PM Posted in Married Life 0 15

FH turns 30 next year and I’m stumped what to get him. It’s a big birthday so I’d like to get him a significant gift but am not sure what. For years I planned on getting him a nice watch but he lives in his fitbit and wouldn’t get any use out of a nice timepiece. He loves dogs and I have contemplated getting him a puppy but we have an apartment and a cat (and I’m not prepared to buy a new couch too in case ours gets destroyed 😝 ).

Ladies, what significant presents have you gotten your spouses/partners for their big birthdays? I am not sure what else to do! Happy to spend a few thousand, just not sure yet on what (must be a gift though, he’s not one for experiences). Hmm…

Most people get the same type of gift whether it's a milestone birthday or not. What are his hobbies/interests? Electronics, gaming? Does he have a favorite book/film/tv franchise? Fandom artwork or a photography piece of a favorite location? Sporting related anything? Men love food.

I got my husband a nice watch several years ago, and he likes wearing it on nice occasions. He doesn't wear it to work because he works at a warehouse and doesn't want to risk breaking it. Would your FH at least wear it when going out (post-covid)? Does he play any musical instruments? I know my husband loves a new guitar or other gear.

I got my FH tickets to a sporting event (pre-covid) which has been cancelled twice due to covid. I got him tickets because it’s something he talked about wanting to do but wouldn’t actually pay for tickets himself.

In my family milestone birthdays = big gifts, it’s just something we’ve always done. He is huge on soccer and guitar but I just can’t think of anything good enough for his 30th given we do extravagant gifts for milestones 😝

He would wear it when we go out but we are huge homebodies so we don’t go out anywhere flash too often. Funny enough he wants a guitar too! He specifically wants a 7 string guitar but I’m apprehensive because he has 5 guitars (we bought him a new one this year) and he plays at home only. It is my ‘back up’ in case I can’t think of anything else.

Yeah, my husband has 3 electric guitars, 1 acoustic, a banjo, a ukelele, and a mandolin. The 3rd electric we just bought him as his christmas present. So I get it lol.

Haha oh goodness well at least we now know we aren’t the only ones. My FH stores his guitars in our spare bedroom (we have a 2 bedroom apartment) and any time I mention that eventually we will need that room for our baby stuff when the time comes, he very quickly thinks of 5 different places he can store his guitars. Lol if only he was so quick with putting other stuff away.

There are a lot of really nice watches with step counters these days. Maybe an apple watch?

Haha, we have a 1 bedroom apartment. All his gear is in a corner of the living room. In our vows I promised him a music room when we eventually buy a house.

For my husbands 30th birthday I took him to the gun range, we went to the casino with a group of friends and I threw him a dinner party. We originally were having a birthday bash weekend in Atlantic City with our friends but Covid ruined that and we had to cancel 🙄 (it was in June when everything was shut down).

3 years ago I surprised him with a vacation for his birthday. I bought us flights to Miami to stay for a few days and then I surprised him with a cruise that left from Miami to the Bahamas for 4 days. He absolutely LOVED that gift.

...We got married for DH's 30th bday. lol

No, seriously, we got married 5 days before his birthday, and I've gone around crowing about how I married a guy in his 20s (I was 36), every month since.

A nice watch could still be good if he wanted something fancy for date nights or work events. But, really, just treat it like any other birthday, but maybe have a nicer dinner.

I was going to suggest taking him on a trip somewhere until I got to the end of your post! My FH turned 30 last year, and I took him to Paris for the weekend. (We live in Madrid so this wasn't as extravagant as it sounds and was a totally feasible weekend trip lol.) I paid for the flight, hotel, and our activities and made a reservation at a nice restaurant for the night of his birthday.

I always have a hard time figuring out what to do for his birthday, which is January 11th. I usually use up all my gift ideas on his holiday gifts 😩.
I'm sure you'll think of something great, though!

My husband's milestone bday was last year! i can't even remember what i got him for his bday aha but i threw a big themed party for him! so remember that even if you don't get him a physical gift, even just doing really sweet gestures would be appreciative.
