Silhouette vs Cricut

Tess, on August 10, 2016 at 4:52 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 9

Hi ladies. I'm contemplating buying either a Cricut or a silhouette for some wedding crafts and was wondering if anyone had a preference of one over the other. I'd mostly be using it for paper crafts and vinyl stickers. I just can't decide which to go with.

Thanks!!

I have never used the Sihouette but I love my Cricut. Design Space can be a little finicky sometimes (especially since its a web based tool) but overall-- it was a great investment. I use it all the time.

Cricut!!!! I make invites and scrapbooks for a living. I constantly use my Cricut! It's easier to use once you get the hang if it.

I bought a silhouette and used it for guest gift bags, our card mailbox, and outdoor direction signs. Oh and meal choice stickers. Their design studio was easy for me to use. It was more cost effective to buy the machine versus buy the items on etsy.

I have a Cricut as well and LOVE it. I can't give any advice on the Silhouette as I've never used one. I have tons of wedding projects planned for my Cricut!

I've been looking into this a lot lately since I plan on buying one. From what I can tell from reviews and blogger comparisons, they are very very similar. The Silhouette can cut and draw up to 10 ft long while the Cricut is limited to the size of the cutting mat. I'm still trying to decide which one works best for my needs though.

I love my Cricut, but if you're looking to do custom stuff, they're not the best choice. You (now) HAVE to use their Design Space software, which is a cloud application. If your internet connection is slow (I live where it's very slow!) it doesn't work. The machine just sits there because it can't get the commands fast enough from the software. I got lucky and have an older machine, so I just downgraded the firmware to use an older third party program, but they no longer offer support for the program or updates thanks to Cricut being lawsuit happy trying to force people to buy cartridges.

Silhouettes don't have that particular issue.

You're more likely to get more bang for your money with the Silhouette. I suggest looking up Sure Cuts a Lot software. It's what I use and they do keep it up to date for the silhouette machines.

I just used my friend's Silhouette, and she has both...she said she likes the Silhouette better since you don't have to be continually buying cartridges...
