Silicone vs metal wedding bands

I'm testing the waters on what people think about having silicone vs metal wedding bands. I am in nursing school and my FH is a weightlifter/football coach. So, the two of us will have a good portion of our time sans metal rings. I suggested we just get silicone rings (there are some that look good)...

I'm testing the waters on what people think about having silicone vs metal wedding bands. I am in nursing school and my FH is a weightlifter/football coach. So, the two of us will have a good portion of our time sans metal rings. I suggested we just get silicone rings (there are some that look good) and maybe for our 10 year anniversary, splurge on metal rings). My stepmother is adamantly against this (as are a few others I've spoken to). She believes that sure, we can get the silicone rings for practical uses, but for the wedding we should absolutely have metal rings.

Opinions please.

Imho silicone rings are stupid. Just take off your real rings.

Silicone will rip and tear and won't last. You want rings. Buy real rings. Then just take them off . you won't be any less married. I promise.

If it was that easy divorce lawyers wouldn't be a thing.

Like most PP we have both. We love our metal bands and are very excited to wear them! I'm a nurse and wear my e-ring always. I don't have a problem with snagging gloves and just scrub a little extra.

I have a silicone ring to wear for work (respiratory therapist-I work in a hospital with snot nosed kids) but I also have a regular wedding band.

FH is an engineer in a factory and is planning on getting a tattoo on his ring finger, but we also have a traditional wedding band for him even though he'll likely only wear it when we're out or with family.

We both bought both! We have simple silicone bands because we run, lift, kayak, and swim frequently. I personally felt like a missing piece when I was out and about without a ring on so I bought an enso ring from Amazon. I'm totally in love with metal for dress up and know that the silicone don't last long! I already shredded on at the gym. They are wicked cheap though.

We ended up getting both. We're both line cooks and it wasn't logical for us to wear our metal bands at work but we wanted them for when we aren't working and the wedding

Nurse here, FH works in a gym and is just really rough on his clothing, jewelry, etc. I wear my metal ring everywhere except work and the gym. I have a silicone ring for that. FH will wear his silicone ring everywhere, but his metal ring at the wedding and on "nice occasions."

Im a ER nurse and FH is a firefighter and a medic; we opted for the traditional bands for home, dates, events, etc.; and Qualo rings for work and working out. I tried wearing my engagement ring to work right after we got engaged. I scratched myself multiple times, almost lost it in linens, and got it caught on a patient gown. It was a no brainer for us. Most of my coworkers and EMS colleagues wear silicone rings also and they come in a pretty decent variety now. I chose a multi pack and match the color to my scrubs. On my days off or date nights my traditional ring comes out of the jewelry box all sparkling and intact.

Side note: My diamond was my great-grandmothers, the fact that this is irreplaceable made my choice extra easy. See what works best for you.
