Silk Centerpieces or Live Flowers????

Tony, on June 22, 2017 at 3:18 PM Posted in Planning 0 39

Ok.... I have a real problem with spending alot of money for real flowers when they will only get used for the day of the wedding and them slow die. What is your option on using silk flowers for the reception? We are using real flowers for the bouquets and boutonnieres.

I prefer real. I don't get the argument about "they'll only get used for one day". Like, are you planning to use 10 identical centerpieces and 6 bouquets after the wedding?

I bought these from someone who just got married for my wedding, I love them!

I'm team real flowers. No matter how "real" looking silk can be, they're still fake and IMO not as impressive as real.

I mean you can use silk, but you could also do flowerless centerpieces, or have the bridesmaid bouquets worked in as part of the centerpieces

I prefer real. I have no idea what I'd do with fake flowers. They don't seem like a great item of home decor, so what else do you use them for?

I am not having flower centerpieces and that cuts the cost of flowers and having real ones for boutiques and boutonnières

We're using artificial for everything, but my kitchen is "sunflowered themed" so I'll be able to use some of them again. Plus I have allergies.

I think if done the right way silk flowers can be beautiful. It's your wedding and if it fits your budget better then go with fake! I have and I'm happier because I know exactly how everything looks NOW. No surprises day of. I put a pic up of an arrangement I made with flowers from Hobby Lobby. This isn't a centerpiece but the flowers are fake.

Sorry if it's a poor quality photo. My phone is awful. Lol

I"m always on team real. Music is stilled, food eaten, dress taken off and hung in a closet.

But I sould rather spend my last fin on a bunch of flowers than a loaf of bread.

I am doing fake bouquets (would love real but it doesn't fit in my budget) and flowerless centerpieces.

Of course real is nicer but there are so many benefits of fake, from being able to put them out yourself (and skip the delivery charge) to saving money on the actual flowers to being able to resale them after the wedding.

@Fallinthegarten, you resale them on a facebook yard sale page, of course!

I prefer real, but am doing artificial. Both can be beautiful! This is what we have so far for mine, with ivory flowers

    Real!

But it's really a personal preference. I'm a flower fanatic in real life, too, so real flowers meant a lot to me. If you would prefer silk, go for it.

The biggest argument I hear for silk flowers is that they are cheaper. They are not actually cheaper unless you find them on sale. If you are going to use fake flowers, you will spend more for "real looking" fake flowers than the cheap obvious fake ones. I am doing fresh cut flowers that I am buying in bulk (saves me quite a bit of money)

I'm team post-wedding resale. You won't make back nearly what you paid, but you can make something! I've already bought several wedding items from local brides on the Facebook Marketplace!

If you don't want to keep all the real flowers, I have heard of couples giving them to people in the hospital/nursing home

We're going with wooden flowers! I saw an advertisement and fell in love with the idea, my friend ordered them for her wedding and everyone was surprised with how beautiful they were. The brand I had originally wanted to go with was ecoflowers, you can customize everything about your bouquet, colors, scent, wraps, additional little decorative things. Etsy has a handful of wonderful looking wooden flowers as well.

Some people love real flowers, but these are cheaper, they won't die in a week, and they look nice as a decoration afterward!

I opted for non floral centerpieces since I didn't want to spend on flowers and I'm just not a fan of faux flowers. Having real flowers for bouquets, bouts, corsage.

There are some very reasonable real flower options like Costco, BJs, Trader Joe's, and supermarkets.

Have you looked into real flowers from Whole Foods or wegmans? They are beautiful and much cheaper than a traditional florist!
