Silk Flower Crowns - Yay or Nay?

Rosemapu, on March 17, 2017 at 4:29 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 21

We're sticking with real flowers for my bouquet, boutonniere and some flower arrangements/decorations, but I'm considering getting silk flower crowns for myself and the bridal party. We're getting married in St. John, and I'm worried that real flowers won't look fresh for long after being exposed to the elements (sun, heat, wind, rain..) Looking for advice from anyone who has used silk flowers before or had experience with fresh flower crowns. Pictures welcomed! Smiley smile

    Lol also interested.

I'm mainly worried about the florist being able to get it done and how expensive they'll be. I'm not looking for anything too big for my girls. Something dainty ideally but still noticeable. So depending on what the florist says, I may buy some simple ones from etsy. I don't want a crown for myself, i was thinking more one-two flowers with my updo

I tried some silk flower crowns on at my dress appointments. I found that the ones with big flowers looked pretty fake, but the ones with more greenery and small flowers were cute.

Thank you @lyla ! I am worried about them looking too fake, especially for pictures. I do love greenery, so maybe I could go that route with the flower crowns.

I'm thinking silk crowns for testing flower girls so they can keep them. I've been looking on etsy and some very nice things.

I wouldn't mix fake and real flowers. Our FGs are wearing flower crowns. They weren't expensive (around $40), so if you're worried and it's in your budget, order more than one so you can wear one at the ceremony and another for photos. Fake flowers that look real aren't cheap, so it might not be any more cost effective to skip real flowers.

Thanks for the suggestions, @MrsSkiToBe ! I've been doing a little research on silk flowers and have also noticed that the really nice ones are expensive. The plus side is that they will last all day and then some, but I think you're right about not mixing in fake flowers if fresh flowers are in other arrangements. I was quoted $80+ each for fresh flower crowns for myself and/or bridesmaids, so I may be spending a lot of money either way. However, that quote included succulents in the arrangements and I've decided to take those out so that could change the cost.

Just met with my florist and doing flower crowns for the BMs. We opted for wax flowers (it's a real type of flower chill out people) she said it would hold up well in our summer weather and has a light blush color to it so it will show up nicely in everyone's hair. They are running me $30/each. I opted for it over doing silk because honestly none of my BMs are going to re-use it and it would just feel wasteful.

I love flower crowns. I wore one for engagement pictures (from the floral department at Wegmans - $65), and my sister got me one for my bachelorette party (from a local florist - $75). I'm getting them for the wedding, too, for myself and my bridesmaids (from Wegmans). FYI I am in Northern Virginia.

I wore a flower crown for our wedding. I didn't want the big flower look, I wanted something more understated. It was ivy with garden roses and some ribbon down the back. Through my florist is was about 75 dollars. I got married on the beach and it lasted well.

This is awesome, thank you everyone!! @Jinxem , thanks for the helpful tip about the wax flowers! I did a quick google search and they are very pretty, I’ll have to see if the florist keeps them on hand. Also sounds like my quote was pretty similar to other fresh flower crowns, so that makes me feel better about spending the money. I am sort of obsessed with flower crowns at the moment myself, @Fern, and bridal parties/weddings are the perfect excuse to wear one!

Your pictures and the flowers are gorgeous, thank you for sharing @LB !! I’m also considering ivy mixed in with garden roses, so it’s great to hear that they held up well. I love how you got the ribbon added to drape down your back, I think I may have to copy you. Smiley smile

@Rosaline Thanks! Yeah I figured the ribbon added a "veil-like" feel to it. It's the same ribbon she had tied around my bouquet too Smiley smile
