Silk flowers vs real

Brittney, on September 17, 2017 at 4:23 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 8

I'm stuck between silks and real flowers! I went to a wedding last weekend and the flowers were fake on the tables and I was unsure how I felt about them. They were white hydrangea Poms. The big centerpieces. What are your thoughts?

I absolutely love real flowers and think that people should do them when they can. However, I am doing silks because my FH and a lot of guests have really bad allergies and my ceremony and reception are inside. Silks are the only way I can get that full of flowers look without making others uncomfortable.

I would definitely price check both real and silk flowers. A lot of people think that silk flowers are always going to be quite a bit cheaper, but that is not always the case depending on the real flowers and if they are in season. I think either look great personally (as long as you don't go TOO cheap with the fake flowers), so just check them out price wise!

I'm also trying to decide on this - on the one hand I want real flowers, but I feel like they're so wasteful. My MOH did her own bridal bouquets with silks and they looked great. I'm considering silks for my wedding.

I am going with silk, but you have to be very careful with silk because some can look fake. There are real-touch silk you can buy. I decided with silk for a few reasons.

    1. My Mom was able to show me her silk bouquet from her wedding. That meant A LOT to me and I would love to be able to pull out my flowers to show my children years from now.

    2. Allergies. My FH and I have bad allergies, but I especially have reactions around certain flowers and I'm not entirely sure which flowers I will react to. There are times when I'm around flowers and instantly feel a lump in my throat so I don't want to risk it.

    3. A coworker of mine was married in June. Her flowers wilted during her ceremony and looked awful in her pictures. My wedding is in August so I don't trust that my flowers wouldn't wilt if hers did.

Those are my reasons, but I know those who choose real have reasons as well. Hopefully this helped give you some things to think about.

Also - I know that all silk can look fake for those who love real flowers, but there are some that look less fake because they have latex in them and are more appealing. I'll post a picture of some that I bought...

I love real flowers but fake flowers can be really pretty if done right!

I haven't gotten to this point yet, but I've seen some really pretty fake flowers (may be more expensive? Idk) but I was planning to price both and do whichever was cheaper Smiley smile but I'm not picky about that particular item on my list!
