Silk Flowers

elle, on January 19, 2012 at 4:56 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 22

I am new to this website! Greetings all! I have always wanted peonies, but with a wedding in July, all of the vendors have told me it can't happen. I found some beautiful silk ones, but in the back of my mind I still think that it is tacky. Now the only people with silk flowers would be my bridesmaids. I would have real flowers and the center pieces would all be real. I want real opinions. Don't sugar coat it please! What would go through your mind if you saw fake bouquets at a wedding?

    Welcome Emily!!!

Every wedding I've been in has featured fake silk flowers for the bridal party and they've all been beautiful. The right ones look amazing and you can't tell them from the real ones.

We are using silk for our wedding and the arrangements have been beautiful! It's more cost effective for us and makes more sense to us. Why pay five or six arms for flowers that will die or be thrown away at the end of the day?

I say, if that is your preference, go for it.

I am going to try to make a boquet later tonight and post a picture, but I have a 17month old daughter and it makes being creative difficult. I worked at a craft store for years and I made bridal boquets there so it will look nice.... I guess I need to care less about what others think.

Here is a quick picture. I just pulled the flowers together slapped some ribbon around them and took a shot. It would be done much nicer for the wedding and I will carefully place the little green berry stems.

I see nothing wrong with silk flowers, maybe because I am partial to them. #1 because I am a DIY chick so I can make things in advance & it is fun. #2 I don't have to worry about them dying....#3 they are much cheaper, the right flowers done correctly will be great!

I'm all about silk flowers! I didn't want to deal with having fresh flowers to pick up the day of and I didn't want to see my bouquet for the first time the day of and end up not liking it!

You would be suprised at how "real looking" silk flowers really are now. I made my bouqet out of silk and my bridesmaids are done in silk and my FH and my mom acutally asked y I made them so early when they are just going to die in a few days. I could do nothing but laugh at them and say "these are fake" Anyway your flower will be beautiful, I wouldnt worry about it.

"Yo, that chic is SMART like me. She did what I did!! She wanted to have lasting flowers and SAVE SOME MONEY!"

[: that's what would go through my mind if I saw silk flowers at a wedding.

I personally like real flowers but I thinkit's just preference if you go silk just make sure your buying high quality silk flowers if you go with a low quality they will look "fake" but if you get high quality silk florals you can hardly tell the difference and they can save you a lot of money. So I say yeah they're fine as long as your buying good high quality silk flowers. I would suggest from an actual florist, wholesale floral company or a good craft store like Michaels.Hope this helps. Good Luck!

I really wouldn't think anything more/less about the bride, although I used all real flowers.

Welcome! I am using all silk flowers for our wedding and I can tell you that they do not look fake if you get quality ones. I am highly allergic to certain flowers so in order for me to limit my allergic reactions on the day of my wedding I decided that we would use silk flowers. I purchased all our centerpiece flowers from Michael's and the bouquets/bouts from an online seller on Ebay who put them together for me and I got 21 of them.

Great question @emily y. I've been wondering this myself. Nice to hear it's worked out well for so many. I think I'll look into it. I love ranunculus flowers but think they'll probably be expensive so good to have the silk as another option.

@chelle the wedding venue includes the flowers for the reception space. I have my heart set on peonies and EVERY florist said that it will be impossible to get peonies at that time of year. Thank you ladies you made me feel much more comfortable about the flowers situation, and my MOH said that she liked them, but she felt that the light pink looked a little too fake, so I am going to nix the light colored peony and stick to just the dark pink color : D I <3 this site!

We are using silk flowers for everything. Everything meaning bridal party bouquets, centerpieces, my bouquet, head table arrangements. We are on a low budget and I am a DIY bride so I see nothing wrong with silk flowers. If you purchase the right ones people won't even notice and it saves you tons of money! Also, you get to have the flowers you want regardless of the year! Smiley smile
