Silk vs. Real florals

Ayanna, on March 30, 2022 at 2:57 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 21
Hey internet friends!
I've been going back and forth with whether or not I want to use silk or real flowers at my wedding (or a combo of both. I found a vendor where that is an option). I'm finding it so hard to justify the cost of all real flowers and even for a combination. Has anyone use silk flowers before? Please tell me about your experiences. I'm so torn😭

Florals weren’t a huge priority for us, so we’re renting silk flowers from Something Borrowed Blooms. Obviously haven’t gotten to use them yet but my wedding coordinator was excited we were using them and said they’re so easy to unpack, use, and send back, so that seemed like a good sign to us!

Thanks Liz! I think we might go the rental route too!

Have you thought about wood flowers? A little pricier than silk but not nearly the price of real. Only problem is you can’t rent them. You’d have to buy them

I have looked at them & am not super in love with the look. Also creates the same moral dilemma of "after my wedding these most of these will go in the trash". Thanks for bringing that up though!

We are using a mix of artificial and real flowers. We ordered silk/foam flowers from Ling’s Moment for our ceremony (signage flowers, pew flowers, alter centerpieces, loose petals for our flower girls) and a few pieces for our reception (cocktail tables, head table). We plan to use real flowers for corsages, boutonnières, bouquets, and reception centerpieces. We definitely could have used all artificial flowers, as Ling’s far exceeded our expectations.

From the research we did, fresh comes out cheaper every time. There are a plethora of options for inexpensive florals while silks/faux tend to be more expensive than out of season exotic flowers if you want them to look realistic, plus silks/faux are not biodegradable and not everyone will keep them on display forever while fresh is eco friendly. Inexpensive fresh options: Costco.com has pre-packaged sets if you are not picky about color. Costco stores sell bouquets inexpensively in addition to local grocery stores some of which have florists who work there designing arrangements. Fiftyflowers.com has high rated bulk flowers in countless types to arrange on your own. Large cities have flower wholesalers open to the public who sell flowers at cost. Many of the vendors there offer inexpensive arrangement and delivery services.

We're going with artificial flowers and silk flowers. Luckily my grandmother is floral/gardening enthusiast so she's handling all of our floral arrangements and center pieces and we chose to go with artificial/silk flowers, and they look just as beautiful as real flowers.

I have a weird thing about silk…because they’re made from Silkworms…. I might have a combination of real and wood flowers! I think there are other types of faux flowers too?

Ooof. I'm going to try and pretend you didn't tell me about the silk worms lol. My struggle with wanting a combination is finding someone who can accommodate! I have been lucky to find 1 vendor that could do fresh & artificial flowers!
Also I'm not sure what all kinds of artificial flowers there are. I've heard of silk and wood. There is probably a plethora out there!
