Silly Question-Centerpieces

Aimee R (formerly Aimee B), on April 17, 2012 at 4:26 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 11

I am wondering (as we will be DIYing ours) what people do to weight down centeprieces like this?

http://diy.weddingbee.com/topic/my-diy-centerpieces-2

We aren't 100% sure what we are doing as of yet, maybe nothing even like this, but curious none the less.

Last thing I want is an accident with broken glass at our wedding.

Thanks!

You can fill the vase with small rocks or sand. :-)

Agreed with Kayla...us some sand or rocks to weigh it down.

No matter what though, b/c of how tall and skinny, this centerpiece has the potential of being wobbly

Ya I thought if we went this route we would use something with a better base.

    Thanks ladies!

If you did decide to go with that style you could take it a bit further and if you planned to have it sitting on top of something, like a mirror, you could glue it to the mirror and then fill it with sand so it has both the weight and a wider base.

We use this type of centerpiece a lot and do not add any weight to it. In the last 10 years, I think we may have had 2-3 vases get broken...and that was usually because someone droppe the vase when they moved it.

I agree with Celebrations... Unless you have an unlevel table or really rowdy guest you should need to have weight in them.... If you must weight them down-- use sand or fish tank gravel... I worry that marbles/dragon tears would have a chance of cracking your vase when you drop them...

I have those same vases. I just couldn't figure out what I wanted to do with them. When I did a party once before I had no problems with them tipping. They did really well. I was a little nerves all night that something would happen to them, luckily everything went well and there was lots of people drinking all night.

We wanted to make sure that our centerpieces wouldnt topple over so we put plaster of paris in the bottom.
