Simple bridal ponytail options for hair that won't hold a curl, please!

Melody, on March 30, 2021 at 5:27 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 9

Backstory: My sister has done my hair for so many events growing up - prom, high school graduation, Sadie Hawkins dances, etc. Ideally, she will also do my hair for the wedding, as that is something that is special for us. However, she's also my MoH and notoriously late for things/underestimates how long it will take her to get ready. So the hope is that she'll have time to do my hair, however I want it to be something simple enough that I can do it myself if timing doesn't allow. That said....

I have what I refer to as "the world's straightest hair". This hair, dude.... I can't count the number of high school dances I went to that started at 8:30 and I'd get my hair professionally done in the afternoon. Curls would be there and they would glue it all together with about 6 cans of hair spray. And then it would be completely straight again by the time the dance started. So I'm looking for ideas for a bridal ponytail.

Things to consider:

1. I despise hair spray. Loathe it. I will not be wearing it on my wedding day. So, as gorgeous as they are, it's probably best to avoid the curls.

2. I'll definitely need to be able to practice this beforehand in case I do need to do it day of. I am able to French braid my hair, so options with a braid element are welcome. However, I don't own things like a curling iron, straightener, etc.

3. I have an undercut! It's wonderful for helping me stay cool, but can look awkward with certain ponytail styles.

Thanks in advance for your wonderful suggestions! Aaaaaaaaaannnddd.......... GO!

OP, honestly, I'd go to a hairstylist that you trust with these concerns and see what they can help you come up with. These are very specific parameters that are hard to offer suggestions without knowing your exact hair type, length, part preference, what would look good with your dress, etc.

I will say, though, if your sister hasn't let you down before at other important events, hopefully she won't let you down on the most important hair day of your life!

So I guess I should clarify something....

Obviously, this question is best for a hairstylist. However, I actually cut and style my own hair and a hairstylist definitely is not in the budget. So I don't have someone I go to regularly and I really can't justify an extra expense that is not in the budget. I posted the question here because y'all consistently throw out amazing suggestions, often things that I never would have thought about myself. I'm not looking for something that will specifically look good on me. I'm looking for things you've seen and liked in general. I probably should have left out the "things to consider" bit, since that's really more stuff that I need to take into consideration. Hind sight is 20/20? I'm very much a verbal processor, and trying to say things in writing exactly as I mean them is often extremely difficult. So I apologize if my intentions with this post weren't clear, and if they still aren't...

I would go to a hairstylist and also do a trial to see how it holds and if doesn’t they can adjust for your wedding day.

These are all quick, easy DIY hairstyles. You can find instructions on Pinterest or watch tutorials on YouTube so you can practice them at home. I would suggest practicing at least 10 times- it usually takes many repetitions to really “get” how to do a new style, then several more to master it.

Every single one of those photos above has extensions. Go to a local store and see what extension/clip in options are available. You’d be really surprised.

Ya know, I don't think I would have thought of extensions... My cousin used them for her wedding and it looked great, so definitely something to look into. Thanks!
