Sing to groom at wedding?

Mrs.White, on January 3, 2014 at 5:54 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 13

I'm very confident in this, but I wanted other people's opinions. I'm not very formal, I'm from North Carolina, so we're pretty casual down here, lol. I want to make my wedding fun and casual, and I'm very young so I will have family members and A LOT of young people too. I'm a singer; I've performed all my life so I don't get nervous. My fiancé has been asking me for years to sing to him, so I thought this would be the perfect time to. Plus all the people attending know that I'm a singer. The place I'm having the reception has a small stage, so I'd get up there where the DJ will be and have my fiancé either sitting in the audience or up on stage with me. What does everyone think? I've heard a lot like "it's embarrassing" or "too cheesy," but my goal is to make is cute and casual. I was thinking about singing At Last by Etta James.

Any opinions?

My only suggestion, don't do this as a surprise for your fiance. You will be the one singing, and if you're okay with the spotlight, that's great-- but by having him on stage, or up front, to listen to you, a lot of attention will be put on him, too. This is not something you want to throw at him the day of-- you had the choice to be "center stage", and so he should be given that choice, too.

I think it's sweet Smiley smile When one of my best friends got married her groom surprised her by singing as she was walking down the isle... wasn't a dry eye in the room

I would totally sing to my FH at the wedding if I was able too, only problem is I can't sign for shit haha

I think its sweet. It would never work for me because I'm super emotional and can imagine not being able to sing because I am crying on my wedding day.

Eh I think it's a nice idea but a little self serving.

What about singing to him during your first dance?

A friend sang to her groom during their ceremony.

One of my grooms sang to his bride before the ceremony started.

    Honestly

Cheesy, sickly sweet and barf worthy

But if it your style go ahead, I guess

    Though I agree with Barbara

I wouldn't, even if I could sing. I know it's your day, but it seems a little too, "look at me! look at me!!!"

It's your wedding, you should do what you want, but I would find it a big attention getting and uncomfortable for the guests.
