Singing to my fh at Reception?

L. Thomson, on September 8, 2019 at 1:45 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
I've been tossing around the idea of singing to my FH during the reception instead of doing a speech. The song I want to sing is "Love Song" by Pink and I am a trained singer so it's not going to be like a bad karaoke moment. It's also a short song. I've included a link to the song in case you are interested.

What are your thoughts? Great idea or tacky?

I think if your trained (and have sung in public before!!!) it could be very sweet, I also think things like this can go cringeworthy very easily. If you think your FH would appreciate it, your guests would enjoy it and emotion won’t get the best of you it’s worth considering, but try to be objective and think about how your guests would really feel about.

I feel like if you keep it under 3 minutes that would be great especially since you’re trained!

This also sounds so so sweet! I hope you post a video of you feel comfortable 🙃

I actually am trained and have been singing in public since I was little. Im actually more uncomfortable with public speaking than singing. Several people attending have gone to karaoke with me or went to one of my prior concerns (I now prefer to sing alternative, rock and pop instead of opera). My fiance also likes to hear me sing.

I've also thought that if we aren't exhausted, go sing karaoke after the wedding reception.

I agree with the time length, that's why I thought that song might be perfect since it's only 2.5 min long.

That to me makes all the difference! I took singing for years (actor who really wanted to do musicals over here!) and I know first hand trained =/= to good at singling in public hahaha. If it’s something you do and are known for, and since you are keeping it short I think it would be a wonderful personal touch and very sweet. I am also 100% a fan of going for karaoke after!

Do it! If you can’t do it at your wedding then when can you?? If you think your FH will like it, then go for it!!

My sister did this (also a trained singer) and it was great. I don’t like it at the ceremony, but at the reception I think it can be fantastic.

Sounds good to me! I had a similar idea so of course I’m biased! I’d rather witness a bride serenading her groom than a speech.

Is this in place of all the speeches like MOH, Best Man? Smiley sad no one has mentioned the bride and groom giving their own speeches to me yet (other than vows) so I’m just wondering (and maybe mildly panicking). I’m sure your song will be great and I’m def not going to do that so I’m sure it will be unique!

With my family, the MOH and Best Man does speeches, and that's it, short and sweet. However, his family is all about speeches. At his parents 50th wedding anniversary, his parents gave a speech then sprung on each of their kids to give a speech....which of course they were caught of guard! I know My fmil and ffil will expect my fiance and me to give some sort of a speech at the reception.

But don't panic! You don't have to give a speech unless you want to!
