Single Guys - Garter Toss

Alexis, on September 22, 2009 at 12:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

I have a whopping 4-5 single guys to throw the garter too...and about 20 single women. Not good! What if nobody goes out to the dance floor?

Oh they will, when yall announce that you are about to do it, the girls will be pushing the guys out there if they dont go themselves....and hey, i have a question, do ppl wear 2 garters? i keep seeing pics of brides showing off 2 of them while they are getting ready. do you throw one and keep one on for "later" ?

We had almost no single people at all at our wedding but my husband really wanted to do the garter toss. So we had ALL men, married and single, come to the dance floor to catch the "lucky" garter...same with the women and the bouquet....It was much more fun that way. The floor was full, everyone was involved, and there was no singling people out for being unmarried..Just an option for you, it worked out great for us that way

I think we'll do the non-single thing, thanks Laura - especially with the lotto tickets. I had the same question about the garter. I really, really don't want to wear them during the ceremony but not sure when I'll get to put them on before the garter toss unless I sneak to the bathroom at some point...

Madison: I'm planning on wearing two, a simple one for the garter toss and then a white and blue nicer one to keep

I think it'd be fine if you put them on part way through the ceremony. You could just go to the bathroom, like you said, to put them on, maybe bring a bridesmaid if you need help lifting your dress and getting the garter on, lol. Noone would know except you and the bridesmaid

Alexis, I had a very slim fitted dress so I did not want to wear the garter either but I didn't want to run to the bathroom to get it on when the DJ announced it was time to remove the garter...here's what we did and it worked out perfectly. We had my mom hold onto the garter in her evening bag. As I was doing my bouquet toss my groom got the garter from my mom and stuff it up his shirt sleeve. when it was time to take my garter off he reached under my skirt, pulled out the garter, slipped it over my foot up to my calf and then lifted the skirt enough to show it on my leg and that he was pulling it down! It looked great in photos and no one noticed at all! We did a quick practice run at home to make sure he'd be able to pull it out of his sleeve and get it on my foot without looking, haha!

I'm kinda in the same boat, and I really want to do both (and I will) but I like the "everyone come up and have fun" idea...I'll go with that! Thanks ladies!

I just went to my cousins wedding and she came out into the crowd herself to make people get up there with the help of her bridesmaids/ they did the same for the guys.. The dj also happened to know we were engaged and not married so announced over the microphone that he knew there was people at table # __ that were not married. That'll get you up.

With the 2 garters, I've noticed one is fancier and one is plainer....Which one do you keep and which one do you throw away? I'm so confused. That is a great idea to get everyone out there for it! I have hardly any single people invited! I love this website! So many good ideas Smiley smile

Garter and bouquet toss could be for couples who are not yet married as well as singles. I remember I caught the bouquet at my uncle and aunts wedding the next year I got married.

I would keep the fancier one. My FH doesn't know this but I am having one made in the hunter green that matches the back of my dress. He loves green (hince his ring on the IB) and that way he can do what he wishes. Knowing him he will slide that one over his shirt sleve at the first PBR rodeo event the following week.. Smiley smile just and idea
