Single rose for bridesmaids?

MarissaFromOregon, on March 23, 2017 at 10:46 AM Posted in Style and Décor 1 62

Good morning! I would appreciate your thoughts on using a single long-stemmed rose for the bridesmaids to carry. I don't want to spend a ton when the bouquets will just be put down and forgotten after the ceremony but I do want them to have something in their hands. I am only worried that it might fall apart.

Honestly I think one flower would look really weird. It's not the bachelor.

One rose would seem really weird to me....like you forgot to get them flowers and it was an after thought.

I agree with the other comments. Have you thought of doing small bouquets and reusing them for reception decorations? I've seen that recommend in a lot of blogs. Just make sure someone is in charge of gathering them and setting them up!

I've seen one dahlia done, but that's a much larger flower... might look a little scarce, would you be adding greenery?

I like the simple elegance and the ease of holding/carrying.

I would ask Rachel/Centerpiece's opinion Smiley smile

It would probably read as cheap to me, honestly. If you just want to do something simple, you'd need a very large statement flower - and a long stemmed rose just wouldn't cut it, visually, to me.

This bouquet looks like it's made up of a couple carnations and some greenery - and it's very simple, likely very inexpensive given the cost of carnations (I think you can get a bunch at the grocery store for like $5 now), and would still fit your idea.

I agree with a small bunch or a flower with a large head. I'm thinking peony, hydrangea, sunflower, chrysanthemum.

ETA: or what about a bunch of baby's breath?

Yes, that's a peony. I like that look with the greenery. If you are set on one flower, I'd do a bigger one.

Ha, it is a peony. Jeez, I'm dumb.

Now that I look at a carnation bouquet... I get why I thought carnation over peony for that one above but yeah, totally different. Still nice though!

Sadly dahlias are not in season in June. My other ideas were a single calla lily, or three mums together to create the appearance of one large flower. But the florist will charge $30 for a bouquet of three mums with greenery which seems like a lot for mums. I've been a bridesmaid multiple times and no one was looking at us closely enough during the ceremony to notice our bouquets so spending $30-$50 per bridesmaid bouquet seems like I'd rather put that money somewhere else in the budget such as increasing my bridesmaid gift budget.

Maybe get a bouquet of just baby's breath! It can look really elegant and they're very cheap! Smiley smile

A small bunch of carnations would be nice. Tightly bunched together.

I think the rose is a bit bachelor/tango, but for my cousin's wedding, we also carried one single stem of something (I'm sorry, I am terrible with flowers) and I think it looked nice. Anything other than a rose would probably be better.

My aunt had a small back yard wedding her her MOH and daughter carried two long stem roses wrapped with ribbon. They held them like a pageant bouquet and I think it looked fine.

Lol single roses would definitely make me think of the bachelor haha

    Baby's breath just looks cheap.

You can do it really inexpensively though.

I second getting them bouquets and then reusing them as centerpieces or something else for the reception. My florist and doc have already told me that when my bms leave the ceremony, they'll have a spot to put their bouquets for my doc to grab them.
