Sister in law

I am 46 and getting married this year. It is both of ours first wedding. Because I’m a little older I don’t want to have a big fancy wedding and a bridal party. I just don’t need that.

My fiancé wants to have both of his siblings in the wedding. I only want to have my bff as my MOH.

Here is the issue- I’m not close with my sister in law. She is actually hasn’t always been so kind or welcoming towards me, but I was in her wedding. She and my brother got married when we all were in our 20s. She invited me to be in her bridal party and I accepted it and was in the party. This was nearly 20 years ago and I really don’t want her in my wedding. Do I have to ask her to be in my wedding party just because I was in her wedding party?

No, you don't. If you two aren't close after 20+ years of knowing each other, she shouldn't be surprised she's not chosen to be in your inner circle. I got married in my 40s and we skipped the wedding parties because our marriage isn't about other people.

No, you’re not obligated to include her just because you were in her wedding 20 years ago. Weddings aren’t tit-for-tat. It’s your day, and you should have the people who truly support and uplift you by your side. If your fiancé wants his siblings involved, maybe there’s another role for her that doesn’t have to be in the bridal party. Do what feels right for you!

Thank you! I feel the same way that the wedding is about the two of us and that is all that matters. I would love to skip the whole wedding party too. Thank you for your feedback!
