Sitting down during wedding ceremony

LaShonda, on June 21, 2018 at 10:21 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 21
Both me and my FH are disabled and have back problems. Has anyone ever heard of the bride and groom sitting down during the wedding ceremony? What's your opinions on this idea?

I've seen the bride and groom sit during parts of the ceremony, but not the whole thing. I wouldn't think it's strange at all. Especially if this is a health concern, do what's best for both of you. I wouldn't judge a bride and groom for doing such a thing, especially if they are disabled.

I haven't personally attended a wedding where the bride or groom were seated but I'm sure it happens frequently for reasons very similar to yours. You only ever hear stories about people who worked really hard to be able to walk down the aisle, but people in wheelchairs get married sitting down all the time. If it will be hard on you physically to stand, then I would put some really nice chairs on an elevated platform so that the guests can easily see. I would also have the officiant and BP seated so they aren't towering above you.

Yea, you don't want to have to bend your neck to much to look up at the Pastor and you don't want them looking down on you. I would also have you and FHs chairs be nicer or maybe sit a little higher than the rest, if possible. That would make y'all stand out more if that is something you're concerned with.

We had a full Catholic mass ceremony, and we sat for about 75% of it!

I think its totally fine given the situation. I would probably rent two nicer chairs or a love seat to sit on during the ceremony and have it nicely decorated.

Hi LaShonda!! This is definitely not strange or out of the norm! In some religions, the bride and groom sit down for either part of or the entire ceremony. In your case, being that this is due to health reasons then, by all means, sit down! At the end of the day, it is your wedding and should go how you see fit. You want to be comfortable and really enjoy the moment!!

This is very common in Catholic weddings and it's not weird at all! You should definitely sit if it will make you guys more comfortable. You can stand at the end for vows, rings, and the kiss, if you're comfortable doing so.

Could your seats be angled some how, or facing each other, so that people could see you and not the backs of chairs the whole time.

I think a wood bench would look romantic! Or you could rent two specialty chairs that would look nice (or use the same ones at the guests sit in). I don't think it'll look weird at all. Hmm..talk to your photographer...you may want to position the two chairs facing each other (officiant behind/in middle), so there will be more photos of your faces and the audience can see you also. Or maybe position the wood bench sideways.
